By cheap I mean I'd like to spend less than 30 bucks and there's absolutely no way I'm willing to spend more than 50. I'm looking for the padded, over-the-ear kind of headphones. These will be used mainly for listening to music and movies on my laptop at college. So, what should I be looking at?

The Koss PortaPro is well regarded by headphone-philes for a can in your price range. You can find them online for $30-$40.

I also recommend the Koss PortaPros... big sound (esp in the low end!) for small price.

    Also, VERY VERY comfortable.

I think I was kind of unclear in my original description of what I'm looking for. What I meant is something that covers the whole ear, like these: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=509318

Of course, I would never buy those particular phones, but that's the basic style I had in mind, just a lot cheaper. Thanks for the advice, please keep it coming!

At your pricepoint finding a good sounding pair of sealed headphones is going to be difficult. One option is the Koss UR20.

IF you can spend more money, you should consider the Beyerdynamic DT-231 or the Sennheiser HD280 Pro. The Beyerdynamic is particularly good for the money.
