Lone Gunmen Premiere-Chilling foreshadowing (1 Viewer)

During the shock of the whole World Trade Center crashes I couldn't help but think of the first episode of the Lone Gunmen TV series. In it, a terrorist reprogrammed an airplane's guidance computer and was going to smash it into either the World Trade Center or the UN building (I forget which). It made me stop and think the most terrifying thing today is that nobody really knows yet who is definitively responsible for what has happened. A sad, sad thing that any of us should have to witness what is sure to be the darkest day in the history of this country.

Yeah, that was all I thought about yesterday. I kept
thinking "this was a freakin TV show." Then it popped
into my mind. The Lone Gunman premiere.
I only wish the ending had been the same yesterday.

My wife woke me up to tell me that an airplane had crashed into the WTC. This was right after the first plane crashed, and noone talked about terrorism, it just seemed like a freak accident. I jokingly told my wife that it was just like the first episode of "The Lone Gunmen", and that it could be terrorists. Then we were watching the live broadcast, and all of a sudden the second building explodes, after a second plane crash. Then we knew for sure that it was something planned, and the similarities between the show and real life were eerie.
I too wish it would have ended the same. I wonder if this episode be shown on TV again. I have no interest in seeing it again, at least (it wasn't even very good).

With Clancy, the plane crashes into the Capitol during the State of the Union (or some other joint session). So the only guy in the line of succession left is the one that drew the short straw (and does not attend for precisely that contingency): Jack Ryan.

In regards to the Clancy book . . .
It was the swearing-in ceremony for Ryan to be VP. He was on his way into the building when it occured. (apparently pre-sworn in - it's been a while since I read the book)
In a related note, CNN interview Clancy within something like 3-4 hours after it all started on Tuesday.

Actually, in Clancy's book "Debt of Honor", Congress is gathered to witness the swearing in of the Jack Ryan character as Vice-President. The elected Veep had resigned due to scandal, and Ryan accepted the position strictly as a caretaker until the upcoming election. The plane hits just as Ryan & his family are nearing the Capitol building for the ceremony.

Give it time, this country will need to blame something. And we all know it won't be that the terrorists are senseless killers. It will be that the movie/tv shows inspired it. A very near future has no violence,action,horror, or anything else on tv or at the movies.Only the news which can show death nonstop will have no repercussions( think I spelled that wrong). They will say that if it wasn't seen on tv it would have never happened.
