Local HD channels not offered by Direct TV...help! (1 Viewer)

Ok, so I have a projector and just got Direct TV with there HD package, looks sweet. So while I knew they did not offer local HD channels, I thought at least the receiver would have an input for a HD antenna, not the case...

So is my only option to buy a HD receiver and antenna and have them hooked up separate? Any recommendations on brands and stuff?

well your asking about a HD reciever...does that mean your tv does not have the tuners build in i.e. a hd ready tv? or is it a newer version.

if the latter of the two(tuners build in) you wont need a hd reciever just the antenna, as for brands i've only really messed with one and it was a samsung/forgot the model so dont have anything to compare to.

You don't mention which receiver you have?

The H20/HR20 models did have a OTA antenna input. The H21/HR21 does not, but DirecTV has a separate tuner (Model AM21) with of its HR21. As far as I know it doesn't currently work with the H21. You possibly might get it for free if you talk to a CSR. The AM21 integrates pretty seamlessly with the HR21 though you will need an appropriate antenna.
