If that's the official content, then there is still plenty missing. The Power Station is not indicated. Madonna's set is short by 2 songs. Duran Duran's "A View To A Kill" is missing. I have the entire broadcast on video. I had 2 different VCR's recording at intervals to avoid missing anything when it came time to switch tapes. I also have the official LIVE AID concert book released shortly after the broadcast. It lists every performer, in order, from both Wembley and JFK. However, the book doesn't indicate every song performed. I once made a list of every artist and song performed. Now, if I could just find that list...
Correction. Madonna only did 3 songs. It's short by one.
And as far as i know, isn't that the same list that's been out for the last month? Don't think it's official. Didn't someone point out inaccuracies with the song titles?
If that's the accurate contents list, it's not as bad as I feared, but there are still songs missing that I enjoyed and am sorry to see go. I miss George Thorogood doing "The Sky is Crying," the Cars doing "Drive", and there were other Neil Young songs (didn't he do "Helpless"?)
Of course, Bob Dylan got dissed by sticking only with his tried and true "Blowin In the Wind" as a safe bet, rather than including his whole set.
Works out at £10 per disc, which for the UK at least is half the usual RRP for single discs. In any case, as Mark has correctly pointed out, retail is likely to be at most 75% of this.
My view is that it's in a good cause, and just be grateful that all we have to complain about is whether or not we'll buy a luxury item like a DVD, not wondering if we'll get any food and water before our partner and kids die a slow death in front of our eyes.
You know, when originally presented with the thought of owning Live Aid on DVD, my first thought was, 'Wow! Live Aid! Tweener-years Flash Back City! Original MTV VJs! That sounds great!' And then I went to a website detailing exactly who played what, when, and where for the Live Aid concert, and my final thought was, "Wow! That sounds like a whole bunch of 80's crap I've been trying to forget since I was 13 years old."
Thanks for the constructive criticism, Ernest. We 40-somethings are of course filled with envy at the music of your generation [pauses to laugh hysterically for several minutes] and its great memorable fund raising event at ... um, please remind me of a fund-raising event of similar magnitude to Live Aid.
the only thing i really remember is the big bruhaha that was made because phil collins flew in to do the set here. but, i will *totally* be getting this.
i'm such an alternative 80's nut. where else will i see nik kershaw, ultravox, spandau ballet, and style council perform live?
btw, where the hell was depeche mode during all of this?
I was hoping that Neil Young's complete set would have been included, but, alas, no.
So much money is made by the Music Industry these days that it makes me wonder why we don't see global concert maranthons today. If anything, the problems in Africa are worse than ever. Of course, that is not the Music Industry's fault, but if it worked once, it could work again.
I think you kind of answered your own question. If the big charity events didn't do any good before, why keep having them. Buying people food doesn't do a lot of good if it's just going to be stolen by armed thugs, which is more or less the root of most of the famine.
Amazon.uk has the complete set list for all four discs including the bonus material on disc four and I have to say that this is extremely disappointing. It really should be called: Selections from Live Aid. By my count it's missing the following 86 songs totalling 6 hours of content!:

Are we certain these are missing? Given the massive set list, it's entirely possible that stuff has been missed off the listings by mistake. This has happened many times before with DVD releases.
