I am new to the Home theater concept, but after a little research i have purchased an Epson 1080p UB and a 106 fixed screen. My next issue is the audio. I am looking for something in the sub 1K range, more than willing an expect to update components over time, but need a base to start from that provides reasonable sound. My room is not setup yet but is 14 x 14 and the seating will be 11 to 12 from the screen, if this matters.

thanks

There about, if that isn't realistic where do you suggest a base system starts at?

I picked 1K only becasue (a. keep cost down) and (b. there were packages under that amount, Sony, yamaha, etc.).

Again I may be wrong as well in the idea of an entry level or base system that i can upgrade.
Feel free to set me in the right direction.

thanks

I suggest you look at the Onkyo systems. Although the speakers are not that great (no HTiB has great speakers), the receiver is decent. The newer ones decode the latest high def and will handle better speakers in the future.

If you can up your budget a few hundred dollars, check out the SVS SBS-01 speakers for 1K. Add a lower end Onkyo for $300 and you will have a nice setup. The SVSOnkyo approach will fill your room much better than a HTiB can.

SVSound - Complete Systems

Amazon.com: Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black): Audio & Video

Onkyo HT-S9100THXB - In Stock at OneCall.com

PS - This should be your starting point. Don't take my recommendations as gospel. Do your own research and listen to as many options as you can in your budget.

Sweet. Welcome to the highly addictive world of HT. You start with a budget in mind, and it increases every couple days until you finally just go for it.
