Damn. One of those character actresses who did so much great work in so many things. In addition to her extensive stage work, one recent TV performance that stood out to me was as the frustrating but principled civil servant Joy Grubick on "The Good Wife".

RIP Linda Lavin

Here is a clip of her singing "The Boy From"... a song she introduced, written by Steven Sondheim from "The Mad Show." This clip from 2020 was from a virtual concert during Covid for Sondheim's 90th birthday.

I always enjoyed her in everything I ever saw her in. Alice was a constant source of delight (she should have gotten at least one Emmy for all her years of work), and I wish I could have seen her when she was the first replacement for Tyne Daly in Gypsy on Broadway (I saw Tyne who acted it magnificently but was underequipped for the musical aspects of the score; Linda wouldn't have had that problem). R.I.P.

Truly an extraordinarily stage performer, amazing in The Lyons (2012), the last Broadway show I saw her in. RIP.

Alice was right up there on my list of childhood favorites and she was the undisputed anchor of that show. Over the years I saw her in a few other roles but she'll always be "Alice" to me.

R.I.P - And thanks for all of the great entertainment
