Has anyone ever seen the television version of Life With Father starring Leon Ames? It was on CBS for two seasons. It is supposedly the first TV show to be filmed in color, this might give it a chance at a DVD release.

I don't remember the show, but it sounded interesting, so I did a litlle research.

LIFE WITH FATHER was not the first TV show filmed in color. THE CISCO KID (1950), and COWBOY G-Men (1952) and maybe other shows predate Life With Father.

Brooks and Marsh's Complete Directory Of Prime Time TV, describes Life With Father as, "the first live color series for network TV originating in Hollywood". That particular wording may indicate that there were earlier network color broadcasts originating from New York.

Life With Father's first season was broadcast live in color and may only exist as black and white kinescopes, if at all.

The Classic TV Archive site lists the second season as having 27 episodes in black and white. So the second season may have been filmed in B&W, not broadcast live, or in color. They have no information about the number of episodes from the first live color broadcast season.

Maybe some of the other HTF members, who are 16mm collectors, or visitors to the Broadcast History Museums, have more information about Life With Father, in color, sightings.
