In more upcoming virtual CES news from LG, the company says it will be showcasing ‘Transparent OLED’ panels online from January 11th. One application will be a new ‘Smart Bed’ display which can rise from its frame to show content in domestic settings with varying aspect ratios and with “immersive” cinematic sound embedded into the frame to avoid speakers in the room. The touch-button 55-inch display will be able to show information and content with no backlight technology and promises to deliver “clear” image quality.
There are professional applications intended for the technology, including restaurant interiors where customers can order from on-screen menus visible to anyone on either side of the unit. There is also the opportunity here for restaurant customers to view a “chef preparing their food” and to watch TV or movies while waiting for an order to arrive, although the real world practicality might be questionable.
