Am planning to buy a profile 2.0 Blu Ray player when prices moderate.

My monitor (which I will later replace) is a 2004, now "vintage," LG DLP (RU-44SZ63D) with a DVI input, though no HDMI input. Presently audio from all my video sources go to my Rotel RX-965 receiver. Can I connect the HDMI Blu-Ray video output to my monitor via a HDMI to a DVI cable, understanding, of course, that this now old monitor can not deliver full 1080P? (audio will be going to my receiver via optical digital connection) What video resolution may I expect-better than 420P?

Welcome to the forum Todd.

Yes, this is exactly what I do for my Sony that has a DVI port. On the Blu Ray side, just set it to output 1080i, 720p or whatever your display will handle. This means that the resolution you will get is the same as your display will handle.

hi
Set it to 720P output.
you may also want to consider opening the LG up and cleaning the optical path.

Good luck!!
Gregg
