I fired up Tortilla Soup the other night and my receiver read out 5 channels running but not LFE channel. Its not my receiver - played the same disc on a friends unit, and the same problem occurred. Never seen this before. Anyone else had a problem like this?

Some soundtracks are encoded as 5.0. It sounds like Tortilla Soup is one of them. (I only had it on rental, so I can't verify either way.) It's not a "problem", just a choice by the sound designer and/or the disc's producer. Disney's Tarzan is another example.

That sounds like a problem with the box, not the soundtrack. Wouldn't be the first time a disc was mislabeled.
