Just for fun, I think all of us college kids to post their systems at school. It may be amusing to see what everyone has crammed in to their rooms, as well as providing some space-saving tips. I'm going to be the jacka** who starts a thread like this and doesn't post my own stuff, but i'm at work and don't have access to the pictures. I'll post them later.

I know two days before thanksgiving is not the best time to do this, but I'm curious.

Post away!

Lucked out and got my hands on a house. Now in my sixth year and having this house that is a 10min walk from the University is a god send. So space isn't a big problem, and since I'm the landlord, I don't have to worry much about it being loud :D

How do you guys get so much stinkin money to buy this stuff in college. I was in school from 97 to 2000 and was barely makin it, and I was making between $800-$1000/mo PT. I wish I could have gotten a cool system but the funds just weren't there. Consider yourselves very lucky!

Jeff, school loans, credit cards... I have accumulated a huge debt over the past few years. It will take while to pay off, but I don't regret it.
Toshiba 32A40 - 32"
Toshiba SD2109 - DVD player
Sony CA80ES - CD Player
Onkyo 575x
Paradigm Monitor 7
Paradigm CC370
Paradigm Atoms
SVS 20-39PC
This is the last of 9 semesters of EE and also the first semester that i am not working (still looking). I have worked an average of 30Hrs a week, often 2 jobs. My school has no dorms, I share an appartment etc... My point is that I never felt like a "college kid" since i have always had real life problems (job, rent, recently daughter etc...) instead of worrying about the next frat party. I am 23 but since I feel much older, I think I have fully earned the right to have fun with my HT!!! :)

Senior at U of Delaware... here's what I've got:
LF RF: Paradigm Studio 20 v.2
C: Paradigm Studio CC
LS RS: AR 130
Sub: B&W ASW-1000
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V595
DVD: Panasonic CV-50
TV: RCA 25" (it's my roomate's tv, so i'm not sure on the model #)
Cables: Home Depot 14awg, radio shack standard RCA
Banana Plugs: Radio Shack gold series
Overall, not too bad for a starving college kid it'd think :) Once I graduate, I'm looking to ditch the AR's, move the Studio 20's to the rear, and pick up some studio 40's to be the new fronts... then replace that B&W for a nice SVS... but that's probably 2 years down the line :frowning:

I'm in university full time, although this is my final year (yes!). Oh yeah, I'm married, but we're not made of money either. Still, I'm not in the same situation as some of you.

Anyway, here's my system:

Sony Wega 36XBR250

Onkyo TX-DS676

Sony DVPS330

Paradigm Monitor 9s

Paradigm CC-350

Paradigm Mini Monitors

Paradigm Servo-15

We also have an old Sony VCR, and a decent Kenwood dual tape deck (I now wish I had spent decent cash on a single tape deck because I'm going to be transferring a lot of my tapes onto MD soon).

OK, I'm back with pics. Just remember this system is very much a work in progress :)
Location: Living room of 1st floor, 800sq ft apartment.
Link Removed
Equipment (as of 11/20/01):
Two 15" Adire Tempest subwoofers
Adcom GFA 555mkII 200wpc power amp
Paradigm Minimonitors
DIY Stryke Audio speakers (temporarily used as stands in the pic)
HK AVR 25mkII receiver
HK FL8350 5 CD changer
Marchand XM-1 stereo 4th order crossover
20" Sony Trinitron (ancient)
$20 Kenwood receiver from ebay
JVC VHS player
Link Removed
As of 12/25/01 :) it should look like:
32" Sony WEGA
Denon 2802 (or its AVR-982 equivalent)
Some MP3 capable DVD player
Upgraded DIY mains and possibly center using Seas Excel and Morel drivers
Two 15" Adire Tempest subwoofers
Adcom GFA-555mkII
So a lot of what's in the pic will be changing. As to how this college student is paying for this.... I picked an impossible major (EE), have a badass GPA (3.8), and got hired as a coop engineer at a large microprocessor manufacturer doing product development. So this semester I'm get paid a crapload of money for my hard work and get school credit for it at the same time. Downside? It prolongs graduation, but since I'm really liking my job I don't care.

I am a freshman at Texas Tech. What I've got right now:

Denon AVR-681 (same as 1601) from ebay for $140

Homemade mains using Focal Speakers

Technics rears (free so I cant complain)

no center casue room is so small

Panasonic RV31 (i think) DVD/CD/MP3 player

RCA 20" TV

Panasonic VCR

After Christmas:

Homemade sub using Focal 8" and Apex Jr 130 watt amp from Zalytron.com

I love my system. My mains use the same drivers and crossovers that are in $1000 bookshelves. The sub is equivalent to a 500 or so dollar one. I have saved so much money, but it still took a lot of mowed lawns to save it all up. Most of my money went to my car system. HT was second, but it has now taken over the #1 spot.

I'm a full time student who works part time. I am also 23.

My setup includes:

DENON 1800

Fronts: Sony 515

Rears: Sony 512

Center: None

TV: Sony 27 inch

DVD: Sony 500D

SUB: Sony WAMO (as I like to call it)

I have bought this equipment over 5 years. I have saved for everything that I bought. I make just about 63 dollars per week, and 40 of that is spent on commuting each week. It takes me forever to buy a new piece of equipment. Damn Education, Damn Universities!!!

Hopefully when I graduate and have time to save more I will get DefTechs all around, Pioneer Elite TV, SVS Sub, and a DVD Player that plays DTS.
