Am I legally entitled to have MP3 copies of albums that I actually own? What if I only own them on LP or cassette? Would I be allowed to seek out and download digital copies of the songs on a record album I own?

I hope this is the correct forum for this question.

Well, maybe you can use the "entitled to backup the music" argument if someone hassled you. This is like when people "back up" their LP by recording them to tape. So I guess it would be feasible to say you were collecting the MP3s as backup for the LP or tape material.
