im looking to get dolby digital and dts from my ld player, which has ac3-rf out. i've been looking around and found a few units, and was wondering if anyone had advice. theres a guy in australia who is selling a yamaha unit, and ive read good things about the denon avd-2000 and the lexicon ldd-1 as well. i would like to get a unit that has more inputs and outputs, instead of a standalone unit. and preferably one that would fit in my component rack, 17" or so wide, with all my other HT stuff. any help is greatly appreciated.

I assume you already know that you don't need a demodulator to get DTS from an LD player. All that's needed is a digital out on the player (which is distinct from an AC3 RF out).

I'm not sure what you mean by "more inputs and outputs". For example, the LDD-1 has only three inputs: one for AC-3 RF and two for standard digital input (one optical, one coax). Only one of the two digital inputs can be active; a switch toggles between them. There's a single output for connection to a receiver or pre/pro. AFAIK, that's about the most inputs and outputs you'll find on a demodulator.

The LDD-1 is an excellent unit, but it was also among the most expensive "back in the days". If you can find one that's affordable (it would almost certainly be used), you could do a lot worse.

I purchased a Yamaha unit from the Australian guy and it arrived brand new as advertised in the original box. Works great, but inputs are minimal.
