He did a movie about Shakespeare where his thesis was that Shakespeare wasn’t actually Shakespeare. Perhaps he’ll take a similar novel approach here.

I'm going to guess that Lawrence will be crossing the Devil's Anvil and comes across a giant ring-like...gate...half-buried in the ground.

Somewhere, someone of Emmerich’s caliber is reading this news and thinking “Hmmm… a series set in Rick’s Cafe… I’ll call my agent.”

(Visions of the David Soul Casablanca series from the 80s dance in his head.)

Enough! This bullshit has to stop!

The marketplace of ideas and audiences tends to sort this stuff out in the end. There’s no mechanism to prevent people from trying to make things based on material in the public domain and/or that they have the legal rights to make. But there’s no mechanism to force audiences to show up either.

One of the more similar comparisons we can look at is Ben-Hur. The 1950s version was a critical and commercial success, an epic large format production that remains popular beyond its time. It was remade several years ago, and the remake was an instant flop that had no impact whatsoever on the culture. If it’s not done well, if the public isn’t interested, it’ll go away on its own, and it’s failure will cause the would-be financiers of similar endeavors to think twice before doing it again.

I mean, we had A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia, with Ralph Fiennes and Alexander Siddig, and the world didn't end. I'm not concerned that Emmerich will in any way affect the placement of Lean's Lawrence atop the pantheon.

I also like MGM's 1925 epic silent version starring Ramon Novarro, Francis X. Bushman, Myrna Loy and May McAvoy.

It could be worse. It could be Michael Bay.
I think Michael Bay is an excellent director. He delivers his movies on time and below budget. He gets good performances out of his cast. He knows how to structure an action sequence. He uses new technology but doesn't allow it to override his decision making. He uses the full menu of camera shots (and has invented a few techniques).

Without hyperbole, I would put Michael Bay in the category of "greatest directors."

It's just that he makes a very specific type of movie, which isn't to everyone's tastes. And yet, he never tries to make his movies be more than they are. He knows what he's good at, and does it.

Also, he's a massive supporter of physical media.

Whenever I've watched a Michael Bay movie this phrase always comes to mind:
(a little Gene Wilder paraphrasing from Young Frankenstiein)

Pull! The Camera! Back!

To me, every movie he directs seems like you're watching it in the front row of the theater, no matter what row you're sitting in.

This sounds like something to avoid until I see reviews, then I might be intrigued. But if there is any movie that DOES NOT NEED a remake, it's this one. It's already about 4hrs long, what more do we need to know? And a big part of the main character is that we really don't know all that much about him, even at the end.

Acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Roland Emmerich is set to recreate the classic film Lawrence of Arabia as a three-season television series, reported World of Reel. The ambitious project, reportedly titled In Arabia, is currently seeking a budget exceeding $100 million. Anthony McCarten, the screenwriter behind Bohemian Rhapsody, is attached to write the first season. The series is presently being pitched to potential networks.

The legend of Lawrence Of Arabia has, as we know, already been superbly filmed by David Lean. A series on the real Lawrence could be interesting if done well. I have my doubts.

My thoughts exactly about Tony Scott- his trademark “everything is a one-shot or close up” visual style comes through loud and clear to me. I do like a few of his films, but dislike most of his output.
