Let me see what my book defines as "epic"....

"Proper symantics make EPIC work. EPIC is about parallelism. EPIC means Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing. EPIC brings a lot of new things, but the biggest are explicit instruction-level parallelism, speculation, predication, and a large register file."

Rob,

That's my thought too, along with Chariots of Fire, The Ten Commandments, The Last Temptation, and The Agony and The Ecstasy.

Yup, and boy won't he be pissed.;)

Troy is coming up fast, I wonder if that would figure well on future lists of great film epics, of course it would never make it to a Sight & Sound list of great film epics, but then few films in the English language would.:)

You sure did—I was all set to throw the OED definition of ‘epic’ in Steve’s face (nothing I like better than calling an Englishman on the language ;)), but your definition stopped me cold.

BTW, the OED does allow for a ‘national’ story to be considered an epic.

erm that was where I got my definition of epic from Lew, here it is again:

Epic: A long poem, film or book portraying heroic deeds or covering an extended period of time.

And it can also be used to describe an exceptionally long and arduous task or activity.

And the term can also be applied to certain lengthy illustrated HTF threads.:D

Well, I agree that they may have made some mistakes on this list regarding the definition of "Epic".

That being said, at least they got Number 1 correct! :D

And yes, I got here late!

:b
