Where can I find older models of receivers that where expensive, but have come off the shelves?
I am trying to be cheap by buying 2002 or 2003 home theater receiver (that I am hoping that come down in price).

    P. S.

I did a search, but found nothing.

If you can catch them right before Fry's Electronics cleared them out of the shelves, usually the prices are pretty decent. Found on today's newspaper ad that they are currently clearing out the Onkyo TX-LR552 Digital Receiver for $149 -- it was originally priced at $399. Not to say that this particular Onkyo unit's expensive and high quality to begin with, but just to give an example of the clearance price drops.

I see that quite a few stores are selling the Onkyo TX-SR502 receiver for more money than I paid for mine (at circuit city, closed box). Odd, that.

The local compUSA has a TX-SR501 for much the same price,

I'm not saying that this receiver line has high resale value. But clearances tend to take place when the new models come in.

Try Froogle if you have a specific model in mind.

Well from what I can gather, the items are usually the cheapest when they are on mass clearance. After that the prices may actually bounce back up because they have then essentially become "rare goods." Computer memory is a notorius example. Look at SDRAM now, a 128MB stick of SDRAM probably costs about the same as a 512 MB stick of DDR SDRAM.

www.refurbdepot.com lots of refurbished stuff. Bizzare menu system and front end - good luck finding stuff - hint: "Power search" is the only way to find anything. Look for refurbished for great bargains on older models. One Call some times has refurbs from Onkyo and others. And look here in the marketplace section.
