What happened? This is my favorate movie and I just got the new directors cut/DTS version and it was changed. Many of the added scenes were good but they took out a few phrases and they cut out the "I Will Find You" song(mistakes). But the bigest mistake was to edit the final blow to magua in the end fight(Fathers Revenge). It totally took away the power and emotion of the movie for me. Instead of seeing the spike go through him, we just saw him hunch over, then fall over(weak). Was the previous DVD release the original or did they screw that one up too, and is it in anamorphic? I don't really care about the DTS and extra scenes, I would just like the original in anamorphic. Am I SOL?

The director's cut that's on the DTS disc is the only version available on DVD.

If you can do PAL, Warners just released the theatrical cut in R2 and R4 (anamorphic / DD 5.1).

My delay in getting the Director's Cut DTS of The Last of

the Mohicans paid off. Initially I thought of getting rid

of the existing DD Director's Expanded Edition,THX mastered

    from my collection. Lucky me.

The Chapter on A Father's Revenge is complete in its entirety. Every stroke was there but the final blow to Magua

I guess was shot in that way. One could only hear the blade

hit flesh,Magua hunched over then the guy pulls away and he

fell to the ground. Its with aspect ratio 2:35:1 WS

Perhaps because of DTS bit rate that they needed more space

at the expense of some editing.

Not to pull this too far off topic, but since is the software section of the forum... Am I the only one who thought the picture on this movie was not good? I thought the contrast sucked. I was very dissapointed when I watched this as part of the AFI top 100 challange.

"But the bigest mistake was to edit the final blow to magua in the end fight(Fathers Revenge)."

This scene really pissed me off.

I really cannot stand how they are changing movies on us all the time now.

I am going to buy the laserdisc and get the REAL version.

I love the film and I prefer the expanded edition to the theatrical. The Clannad song, while nice, was out of place with the rest of the music IMHO. Plus, they removed some cheesy lines like "Someday you and I are going to have a real disagreement."

Leon, both your original release and the current DTS release (which also contains DD 5.1 track) are Director's Cut and contain the same version that differs from the original theatrical release. Scenes were cut not due to disk space considerations but because the director wanted them cut for his own reasons.

    Ken,

I do beleive I have seen another version (green) on DVD.

    Gareth,

    What is PAL?

So is there any way to get the original on DVD in good quality? I don't have a LD player so that's out. I have the VHS video but never even use my VCR anymore. What am I to do?

Yeah, I know for sure I watched the DD version. Is the video on the new DTS version much better?
