I just watched this about 30 minutes ago. Here's my thoughts.
The Dolby Digital was good, very LFE driven and nice use of surrounds. I think this movie would have definitely benefited from DTS though, especially for the great action.
Widescreen enhanced for 16:9 still looked decent on my 4:3 Wega. Not as vibrant as I would hope for, sometimes muddy, but overall a good transfer.
The animated menu was in surround! This doesn't happen very often, but this is one that stays in 5.1.
The 3 documentaries that I watched were pretty informative, but they used some material repetitively in each one. What I mean is that after watching one doc. I saw the some of that material in the other docs. Other than that, they were a good length and... informative.
I had not checked out the DVD ROM features but they don't look like anything great... minus the Tomb Raider Chronicles game demo, but I have the game for Dreamcast so it didn't matter much to me.
One thing I thought was interesting is the director's (Simon West) view on the movie being true to the game. He really wanted to stay with the game (as far as ideology, character, and theme [obviously not according to the game, which is good because it can stand on it's own]).
One other thing, I watched the alternate main title sequence on the DVD and my wife said that was what they used in the theater. I don't remember what they used, if anyone can remember for sure... please post.
That's all I have to say about that.

...Im sure this disc LOOKS fabulous. Reference quality.
But is there anything to the film itself or the story, that make it worth owning...?
(I mean besides AJs' lips and breasties)

Here's brudder Mike's take on the disc, although one can sense a certain mammary gland obsession, I've been assured that he's checked out the whole thing... it's here

I got this disc on Saturday and planned on watching it soon. Haven't though...
This movie was like the games: a bunch of neat action sequences tied loosely together with a crap plot. Nonetheless, seeing AJ wearing tight shirts and running in slow motion while things explode can make any DVD worth a purchase. They will probably start putting that clip from the movie on her movies because they want to sell discs.

I do want to point out that the DVD-ROM features are in fact the coolest part of this disc. Check out the "online experience" and see how you fare playing rapid fire shooters, pauzzles, etc etc along with Lara. I lasted 20 minutes first time...

Alan Gouger over at AVS gave the disc a big thumbs up because of lack of EE. [IMG]

No EE???? This has got to be good. Angelina Jolie without edge distortion. Those curves without dreaded haloing????

If you guys have a Jolie fix and don't want to spend money on this movie, might I suggest Gia? A good movie and, um, more of AJ than any other movie out there (except maybe the one with Antonio Banderas but I never saw that one--it is on my To Rent list, though). [IMG]

I thought the transfer would have been better considering it's a new, big budget release. The surround mix was good though and I did enjoy the mamm...er, uh movie.

The opening scene takes place in a tomb, sort of. Then theres the Mayan-type temple and the giant frozen temple.
I guess the "tombs" are big too.

Can anyone confirm the rumour that the movie would be re-edited for DVD? I never saw it at the movies and am curious to see the original theatrical release before I see any new cuts.
IS THE ORIGINAL THEATRICAL CUT ON THIS DVD???
    Thanks as always guys
PS, can anyone tell me why I can't see my homepage I configured in "Bio"?

I think the DVD is the English version of the film which was slightly edited from the American version.

Just watched it. It was a stupid movie, bad acting, bad dialogue, dumb plot, but the actions scenes and special effects kicked butt! Great picture, too. Maybe not reference quality, but definately better than most. The Dolby digital soundtrack was pretty solid, with awesome bass extention, and pretty liberal use of surrounds. I liked it it for those reasons, but it only waranted a rental, not on my buy list, that's for sure(watch Pushing Tin to see AJ's, uh, tombs)

The opening in the film was the original opening and the one in the special features was not in the original film, for whoever said their wife or girlfriend or someone told them otherwise.
