I am interested in viewing some of the earliest days of film. This compilation of films spans the years from 1886 to 1913. It includes "A Trip To The Moon" by George Melies and "The Great Train Robbery"...

Does anyone own this? Would you recommend this DVD? How is the video quality?

It appears there are 2 volumes, but volume 2 is devoted to only George Melies. Any input on this first volume would be greatly appreciated...

These films dont appear to be available on any other dvds...

    Thanks in advance...

It looks as if these were taken from Kino's The Movies Begin series, which has since been compiled on dvd in full. It's a stellar five disc set which probably has what you're looking for and then some.

It's also reviewed at Silent Era here.
