I know there were some shots where they didn't have the original negative anymore & had to rely on dupes. Whatever, it's Warner Archive, so I'm sure that we have the best possible version. I'm sure that on the DVD it's James Hayter (there's no mistaking that voice) maybe we have the US dub (a shame, but I'm looking forward to really good sound with that great Tiomkin music score). I haven't watched it yet, it's on my Autumn to watch pile (awaiting Helen Of Troy).
James Hayter was always dubbed. IMDb says that George Coulouris dubbed his voice.

No way! I said to myself, so I popped in the DVD, & well, if it is George Coulouris, he's doing a great job of sounding like James Hayter. I dunno.

The commentary extra is definitely squeezed. That has to be a mistake, there's no other way, and it should be fixed. Try to watch it and you'll get a headache. Are the studios still doing exchanges on incorrectly produced discs like they used to? Warners used to be quite good about that.

It's been explained elsewhere, and on the latest Extras podcast, that the commentary couldn't be appended to the new and improved transfer, so the old version of the film was included as well. That also might explain why the cartoon mentioned on the packaging was not included.

Thanks Rich but that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about the squeeze, not the addition of the old version as an extra.
