Amazon is now showing a March 6 release date for this title, but I haven't seen a press release yet. Did I miss one? It just seems like that's coming awfully soon for something with no announcement.

Nothing from Fox as of yet. Good possibility by Tuesday as Fox sends press materials on Monday, but that's a holiday.

Heck, I am still sitting here waiting for THE LAST JEDI press release from Disney. That should have happened weeks ago.

Is Fox distributing this title? Lionsgate has traditionally handled disc distribution for A24, so I assumed it would be them.

Jake,

That's my mistake, then. For some reason, I thought LADY BIRD was a Fox title.

I am going to go through my email to make sure that I didn't miss a press release. Lionsgate is usually very early with their announcements.

I'm not saying that I know it is a Lionsgate title. You may very well be correct that it is Fox. But if it is Fox, then it would be the first A24 title to go out through them as far as I am aware. That being said, I would not consider myself an expert on these matters. I just have other A24 titles in my collection that were distributed through Lionsgate.

I haven't seen a pres release posted at other sites either, so if there is one, you wouldn't be the only one who missed it. Until I saw the March 6 date on Amazon, I just assumed that they were holding the disc release for a while hoping that it would play in theaters longer after winning some Oscars.

Although this is not the strategy most studios are currently employing with their Oscar contenders, I tend to believe they leave some theatrical money on the table by rushing them to disc right away after the ceremony, especially if they have a big winner, i.e. Picture. So it made sense to me that there wouldn't be a press release yet, if the title were being held for late April or May. If they are going with March 6, it is rather odd, though.

For what it's worth, Vudu is listing the digital version of Lady Bird as being available on February 27.

Most digital releases tend to be two weeks out from the Blu-ray, which if that were to be the case here would put the disc on March 13.

Either way I still think a press release is late.

With Lady Bird being out so long in movie theaters, it's the movie chains that benefit the most for playing this title in March not the studios. The longer a film plays in theaters, the studio percentage of box receipts decreases incrementally over time. So I would guess the studios get more monies from video product sales at this point in March.

Despite the fact that I still haven't seen a press release, Amazon's page now lists the following special features:

Amazon said:
Special Features:

Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Greta Gerwig and Cinematographer Sam Levy

Realizing LADY BIRD Featurette --Lionsgate

Also, Amazon dropped their price of the Blu-ray combo to $19.99, which is (currently) essentially the same price as the only-3-cents-cheapr DVD standalone. I was waiting for the Blu to hit this level, so pre-ordered it this morning. I love the movie, but with so many new theatrical releases the past few months have only seen it once, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it again. I'm also glad to hear there will be commentary with Gerwig, since I will for sure listen to that.

I noticed that, despite Amazon having the March 6 release date on their site, my pre-order says "Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. " This makes me wonder if something is going on, since as I am a Prime member, normally it would list the release date, March 6, as the delivery date.

Again, it would be really cool if Lionsgate could issue a press release for this title to clarify all of this business. Also, if it actually is coming out on March 6, shouldn't review copies be in the hands of reviewers soon?

Furthermore, have you all noticed that Lionsgate's A24 releases are now embracing combo packs? The Disaster Artist, and, according to the cover art, Lady Bird include DVDs. All previous A24 releases I have purchased have been Blu-ray only, aside from the digital copy code. I wonder what prompted Lionsgate to change strategy on these particular titles.

Gerwig's is my favorite original screenplay. It is a finely observed study of family dynamics. Even the secondary characters, students as well as docents, are carefully delineated. Gerwig's direction is also quite accomplished. I really loved this film.

I see that all the time, Jake.

In fact, I have that right now on two titles due out March 27th: Joan of Arc from Kino and MisterRoger's Neighborhood: It's a Beautiful Day from PBS. Same verbiage.

I've seen it before on long-range pre-orders where they legitimately don't have a release date yet, but not as frequently on titles where we actually know when it's supposed to be coming. That you have is interesting. I wonder how long it will take for Amazon's computer system to update that.

Also, Amazon dropped the price further to $19.96, meaning that with their pre-order price guarantee, I will have saved at least three whole cents. Woot! :)

(But seriously, now that the Blu-ray+DVD+digital combo and the standalone DVD are the exact same price, why would anyone opt for the former at all?)

The Critically Acclaimed Coming-of-Age Comedy Arrives on

Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD March 6 from Lionsgate

SANTA MONICA, CA (February 27, 2018) – The Oscar® nominated* coming-of-age comedy, Lady Bird, arrives on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital) and DVD March 6 from Lionsgate. From her own semi-autobiographical script and making her solo directorial debut, Greta Gerwig’s (Frances Ha, 20th Century Women) Lady Bird follows a wildly opinionated and adventurous woman as she navigates her way through adulthood trying to find her true identity. Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh™, the film stars Oscar® nominee Saoirse Ronan (Best Actress, Brooklyn, 2015; Best Supporting Actress, Atonement, 2007), Primetime Emmy® winner Laurie Metcalf (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, “Roseanne,” 1992, 1993, 1994), Oscar® nominee Lucas Hedges (Best Supporting Actor, Manchester by the Sea, 2016), Oscar® nominee Timothée Chalamet (Best Actor, Call Me by Your Name, 2017), Odeya Rush (The Giver), Beanie Feldstein (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), and Tony Award® winner Tracy Letts (Indignation, The Lovers).

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Ronan) fights against, but is exactly like, her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Ex Machina), the home entertainment release of Lady Bird features an audio commentary and featurette, and will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD for the suggested retail price of $39.99 and $29.95, respectively.

Amazon shipped my copy today.

My local arthouse is closing the film on Thursday, after having played it continuously since November 17, 2017. They say that it broke the previous all-time gross record for their theater, which as previously held by Brokeback Mountain since 2006, and then The Shape of Water also broke the record, too. (They won't say how much the record is, though.)

In any case, this certainly has had a long, leggy run.

I found Ladybird to be an american version of An Education. Found them to be almost the same.

Glad I rented this before making a blind buy.

While I certainly enjoyed it, it wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be considering all the praise.

But definitely worth renting.

I thought the making-of featurette on the Blu-ray was pretty good. It didn't break any new ground but covers the bases you would expect in a candid and interesting way.

There is also the commentary, which I will listen to in full later, and "trailers," which is just a way from the menu to access the trailers that also play automatically at startup. Lady Bird's own trailer is sadly not included.
