    UltimateDisney.com said it's confirmed for a March 7, 2006 release date.

Good news for all Lady and the Tramp fans.

Here's hoping for pristine PQ for the 2.35 version of the film and that if they do include the 1.33 version, it's on disc 2.

Wow...even though that's a year away that's still great news. That's definitely one of my all-time favorite Disney animated films.

Very curious as to what they're going to do with the aspect ratio...

My vote (which I know counts for nothing in the Disney offices) is to have both restored and presented. Of course, as wise grandparents always say, "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst..."

I suspect the DVD will be like Sleeping Beauty: SE and Beauty and the Beast: PE and present multiple versions on the same disc.

Any guesses for the Fall 2006 release? Only three left are Mermaid, Dalmatians, and Jungle Book.

Mermaid has to be a Fall title, it's to big not to release near the Christmas season. I'm going to pick that as Fall 2006.

Either Jungle Book or Dalmatians could be the spring 2007 title, both are tremendously popular and could be Fall 2007 instead, its a toss up either way.

Good news. Maybe Disney will avoid the enhanced home theater mix for this, but I'm sure we'll get it anyway.

I hope you are correct Ernest. We were watching the older dvd this past weekend and the picture is not anything to write home about. This is my favorite Disney film and I anxiously await a nice 2-disc version.

I think it is a very nice non-anamorphic transfer and among the best of Disney's first wave of animated DVDs. That's not to say that I won't be looking forward to an upgrade, though. Mulan was probably the best of this 1st wave and they managed to improve it noticeably with a 16:9 enhanced re-release.

Being as the film is only 75 minutes, they should be able to produce a nicely rendered compression whether they put the two versions on the same dual-layered disc or not.

    Regards,

I hope we get the original stereo mix and not the awful remix used for the laserdiscs.

The original DVD had a mix similar to the laserdisc, but with all the editorial gaffes fixed. In other words, the missing voices were back in, but the dialog was still narrowed to mono.

Ken, I completely forgot about that. Both versions would add up to a 2.5 hour movie and there are plenty of high bitrate 2.5 hour movies on a single disc (Goodfellas SE comes to mind).

    I'm hoping for the best.

They'll add new baby noises for enhanced realism.

I see no reason why an enhanced 5.1 mix would be needed... most of the 1950's CinemaScope 4-track magnetic tracks are wonderful in fidelity and mix.

In other words, I guess we'll see one, anyways...

Good news definitely, the first title to look forward to in 2006. I also hope the Little Mermaid is the fall release.

Just to confirm, Cinderella is Fall 05 right?

Also didn't Disney at some point also say that Pinocchio and Fantasia were getting platinum releases as well? There hasn't been any news on those fronts at all to my knowledge.

Cindy goes to the big dance this Fall. Tramp spring 06, my guess is Mermaid in Fall of 06, or Fall of 07.

Pinocchio and Fantasia probably won't get Platinum releases until the queue is emptied, meaning not until 2008. My guess is that Pinocchio will be the first HD animated title released by Disney on HD-DVD/Blu-Ray. Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty were also added to the "Platinum Edition" schedule, giving the collection a 14-title, 7 year cycle.

I knew Sleeping Beauty was added, but the two disc set that came out was so lavish I just figured it was a platinum title that wasn't branded as such. Would make sense though if they're shifting to a 14 title, 7 year rotating cycle though. Never thought of it in those terms, but it does make sense, especially given Disney's "vault" status with many films.

So Ernest, you're thinking that Pinocchio won't resurface again till HD-DVD/Blu-Ray? I hope you're wrong... given that the title has popped up in other regions, I was really hoping for a domestic release...
