I saw an ad ni a magazine about the BFI releasing two pieces of kurosawa's genius. Here's the info...

The Hidden Fortress features a 2.35:1 anamorphic B/W transfer with a Japanese language track and English subtitles. The DVD features an interview with George Lucas about Kurosawa and the film.

Stray Dog will (we believe) feature a 1.33 academy ratio transfer and a Japanese language track and English subtitles. The DVD features the original colour poster as the only extra.

Hidden Fortress looks to be the same as the criterion release, but Stray Dog doesn't seem to be on criterion's slate, so what should i do? wait or buy this edition?

I am also considering getting Stray Dog. The Criterion LD rarely shows up on eBay, and when it does, it easily goes for $100. I haven't heard this title mentioned in prior Criterion chats, so there's no telling when it will show up on their release schedule.
