I was perusing Amazon UK and noticed they have this movie in HD and UHD, but not 3D. I couldn't find a pre-release holder on Amazon US for the movie at all.

Will Skull Island be released in 3D. I'd rather have the 3D than 4K.

I'm seeing it on Amazon.co.uk - admittedly sometimes the search function is a little wonky:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kong-Islan...id=1493922542&sr=8-1&keywords=skull+island+3d

There's no street date yet, but there isn't one for the 2D version, so it might actually be coming.

(Amazon.uk has a listing for The Great Wall in 3D, another Universal title, but no street date. The 2D has a street date and it's in the next week or so. So I think the 3D release there for that title isn't happening.)

That may be a phantom or inaccurate listing, just as a "buyer beware" FYI. The Best Buy listing and product description for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter says UHD+3D, but the actual press release from Sony confirms that it's UHD 2D only and the artwork on the Best Buy page also shows 2D only. So my advice for interested 3D buyers would be to wait for the press release before preordering to ensure that this ends up being a real product.

Universal has also not issued a UHD+3D combo previously, so I'm a little suspect that this is real.

Thanks for the info. I'm not preordering at that price. If I have to choose between 4K and 3D, I'll go for the 3D. Kong was good in 3D.

I pre-ordered mine last month from BB. I didn't see it in 3D at the movies because I wanted to experience that in my HT.

I will say the Blu-ray.com does show this 4K/3D Blu-ray version as a Best Buy excusive.

They also showed a Resident Evil 4K/3D combo which ended up being a phantom product - the Best Buy exclusive will actually be a 4K 2D-only steelbook, but the listing for a Best Buy 4K/3D combo is still active, even though the product does not exist and will not exist.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I'm extremely skeptical that this 4K/3D Kong combo is actually coming.

Number one priority, for me, is 3D.

I often pass on theatrical screenings to catch them later at home, but I couldn't pass up the chance to see Kong in 3D on the biggest screen I could find. It was like seeing Kong at lifesize, so of course I had to.

Not a perfect movie, but as these things go, it's pretty good overall. Ended up seeing it on the 3D Imax as well.

I thought the film itself was pretty average but I liked it enough to pick up the 3D version..or 4K combo if available.

And I'll say it again, no home theater setup beats seeing a film like this in IMAX 3D. Not even close.

I missed it during its theatrical run because it was only showing at my IMAX 3D theater for one stinkin' week before Beauty and the Beast bumped it out. Majorly bummed! I'm hoping that the 4K/3D combo becomes a reality, but I'm not holding my breath.

I finally was able to see it, although in 2D, a couple of days ago, and was the only one in the theater. It was better than I had thought it would be, but I kept thinking how great it would be n 3D. If there isn't a blu 3D release, it will be very disappointing.

Probably not the real steel book cover.

I did leave a comment on the Best Buy forum asking... They stated they can neither confirm or deny that the 3D will be included until the official press release.

It has the unfortunate effect of making the (CGI) planes and helicopters look like tiny models that you could swat away with your hand, but for the most part the 3-D is very good. A few scenes had a pop-up book feel, but some were amazing. There's a shot of a street in Saigon that felt rounded and had real depth. Also the helicopter shot of Hiddleston on the ship was excellent. Astonishing to think it was a conversion.
