Found a LD of the 70s show "the night stalker" and was wondering if anyone knows if they put out the whole series on laserdisc? I sincerely doubt that DVD would be in it's future but stranger things have happened.
Sort of a very early X files, except it didn't take it's self so seriously.
    Thanks
    Grant

If Universal can put out Baretta, you would think this significantly shorter series would be a no-brainer.

Here's hoping-- it's one of my favorites of all time.

    "KOLCHAAAAAK!"

I believe the whole series was put out on LD in Japan and therefore is quite rare and expensive. Here's hoping we see a box set on dvd soon!!!

Me too. A definite buy for me if a box set ever comes out.[IMG]

I'd buy the series in a heartbeat if it were released on DVD. (You listening, Anchor Bay?) I have the two pilot movies and they kick ass, especially "The Night Strangler."

It was only on the air one season, wasn't it?

I have the Anchor Bay 2-sided double feature disc of The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler and I have the Columbia House VHS set of the series. I for one would love to see this in a DVD boxset. Universal should really do something about this. It would be nice to have some commentaries with Darren McGavin on a few episodes too.[IMG]

maybe if Darren McGavin bumps off his wife, we'll get it out on DVD ala Baretta (too bad it comes to that)

I was actually surprised that the series wasn't included in Universal's first slate on TV/DVD releases. It's one of their most requested titles.

Thats very high on my wishlist to comeout on DVD. The series wouldn't be hard to do either was only on for 20 episodes...

I think that with the recent successes of the X-Files Season Boxed sets, a great promotional tool would be to include some type of "Crossover commentary" from Chris Carter as to his thoughts on some of the stories, etc etc. Carter gives Kolchak most of the credit for inspiring his work on the X-Files... might be an interesting angle.

I was thinking that when I was watching it on LD!
Hmmmm if we replace the newspaper with the FBI...throw in a chick that doesn't disappear every show..
You can see almost chris carters mind works.
The only change was that most of the humor was deleted out of the x files
I once told a friend that every TV show is a rip off of the 1st year of "I Love Lucy".
    I Lied
Throw in the twilight zone & MPFC and I will stick with that statement

In regards to Anchor Bay's Night Stalker double feature, who else was shocked at how good the transfer was? It was the first Anchor Bay DVD that I can personally remember where you could see things turning around for the company quality wise. I just couldn't believe that a telefilm from the early seventies could look as good as it did, film is a much more robust format then we sometimes tend to think.

Carter ripped the FBI idea from Silence of The Lambs!

I'm serious! My theory is he took the Night Stalker added the FBI idea from watching Silence. Then he needed a way to have different creatures etc., but at the same time not in the same city everytime. The FBI idea solves it. Silence came out a year before the first X-Files episode.

I must say that Norm's ideas are close to my own. I always thought that the part about the FBI and the red-haired agent seemed a bit too coincidental:
