Ok, here's the situation, my g/f wants to get a surround sound system. She doesn't have a lot of $$ to spend on it, and lives in a small apartment in Chicago. Will this HTIB be any good?

    http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=...=1552&scat=242

    PRODUCT FEATURES
Surround sound receiver includes DVD/CD/CD-R/RW player with built-in MP3 decoder and AM/FM tuner

Includes 5 acoustically-superior matched speakers, each with 2-3/4" full-range driver and aluminum housing

    8" side-firing subwoofer

Built-in Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic surround sound decoders

160 watts of total system power

Kodak picture-CD-compatible for presenting "slide shows" on your TV

Component video outputs for superior color with compatible televisions; S-video and composite outputs

    Parental lock

Optical digital and A/V inputs and outputs; RF input; video monitor and preamp outputs

Color-coded wiring and on-screen displays for quick, easy hookup

    Universal remote control

I understand it is cheap, and you get what you pay for, but it might be all she can afford to get. Worth it or no?

    Thanks,
    Rudy

It will do the job. If it's her first experience with Dolby Digital, I think she will absolutely love it. It is missing DPL2, although you might have to hit the $300 level mark for HTiB before you get that feature.

One thing to note is that it has no digital in. So if you ever plan on using it for another source digitally, you can't.

I saw this system at my local BB, but it never worked. It looks nice. In an apt I say any HTIB will work great. KLH has nice stuff for entry level. Can't go wrong.
