It was a made-for-TV film which a great many people of the era were doing. Bette made no bones about taking things as long as she could work, the only place she ever felt happy. She was also filming a couple of things around the same time that ran originally as TV-movies but were actually made in the hope they'd lead to a TV series: (Madame Sin, The Law and Jake Wilder). She finally landed Hotel which did get picked up as a series but that was when she had her mastectomy and strokes which removed her from the cast to be replaced by Anne Baxter (the irony!).
Thanks for that info!!

From Arnold Laven, the director of Anna Lucasta, Geronimo, The Glory Guys and Sam Whiskey, comes this tension-filled western starring screen greats Dean Martin (Texas Across the River), George Peppard (Newman’s Law) and Jean Simmons (Elmer Gantry). Molly and the townspeople turn to former Deputy U.S. Marshal Dolan (Peppard) for help but he refuses to take on the tyrant, figuring any confrontation with Flood or his men is a losing battle. From John Frankenheimer, the acclaimed director of The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, Seconds, Grand Prix and Black Sunday, comes this action-packed WWII masterpiece starring screen legend Burt Lancaster (Run Silent Run Deep, Elmer Gantry, The Professionals). Paris, August 1944… with the Allied army closing in on German commander and art fanatic Colonel Franz Von Waldheim (Paul Scofield, A Man for All Seasons), he decides to steal a vast collection of rare French paintings and loads them onto a train bound for Berlin. But when a beloved French patriot is murdered while trying to sabotage Von Waldheim’s scheme, Labiche (Lancaster), a stalwart member of the Resistance, vows to stop the train at any cost. Calling upon his vast arsenal of skills, Labiche unleashes a torrent of devastation and destruction—loosened rails, shattered tracks and head-on collisions—in an impassioned, suspense-filled quest for justice, retribution and revenge. Featuring a top-notch score by Maurice Jarre (Doctor Zhivago) and a wonderful supporting performance by screen icon Jeanne Moreau (Viva Maria!), The Train was the fourth of five collaborations between filmmaker Frankenheimer and star Lancaster.

OK, I'll admit it. At first glance, I reado-ed that as "NEW Audio Commentary by John Frankenheimer". Thought that seemed a tad unlikely.

An all-time personal favorite movie of mine that I watch every two years. I'm satisfied with the prior BD release, but will probably breakdown and buy this again for the new commentary.

Helix theater (gone now too) in La Mesa, CA for me. I saw Texas Across The River there too!
Being a big city kid, I saw it at either the Selwyn or the Lyric, on baudy and gaudy 42nd street, on a double bill with THE WAR WAGON.

Beach Red (1967)
• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 105 Minutes 1.85:1 Not Rated
Young marines on a WWII tour of duty learn that “war is hell” in this graphic, unflinching and honest drama of men in combat. Starring Cornel Wilde (The Big Combo, Road House) and Rip Torn (Coming Apart, Time Limit), Beach Red marked a real breakthrough in American war picture production by taking pains to show the terror on both sides. After a gory battle to take the beach on a Japanese-held island in the Pacific, Captain MacDonald (Wilde) asks Sergeant Honeywell (Torn) to lead a squad on a perilous journey deep into the jungle to find the enemy’s stronghold. The scouts soon learn that the Japanese are preparing to strike back hard and fast. In the hours to come, whose blood will soak the sand red? Co-written, produced and directed by star Cornel Wilde (Storm Fear, The Naked Prey, No Blade of Grass).

Wasn't The Train out twice already from Twilight Time?
KINO released an Anamorphic DVD version (in 2015)
1602057306964.png
1602057345442.png

as well as M-G-M (in 1999)
1602056878386.png
after the M-G-M DVD (and the first Twilight Time blu-ray sold out) I believe TT later issued another blu-ray.

KINO obviously believes there is still a demand for a blu-ray and has included a different commentary and a new monograph by Julie Kirgo who participated in the commentary for the TT blu-ray (at least the second version).

As TT titles are no longer being made and the only retail outlet that sold TT titles shows the blu-ray is sold out... There will probably be demand for KINO's new blu-ray, especially is at is an excellent film :D!

Captain Newman, M.D. (1963)
• Audio Commentary by Film Historian Samm Deighan
• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 126 Minutes 1.85:1 Not Rated
From David Miller, the outstanding director of Sudden Fear, Midnight Lace, Lonely Are the Brave and Executive Action, comes this realistic look at life and love inside a stateside military hospital’s psychiatric ward during World War II, starring screen great Gregory Peck (Yellow Sky, The Big Country, On the Beach). This classic comedy-drama follows the affable Captain Newman (Peck) as he uses both humor and compassion to reach patients whose wartime injuries plague their minds instead of their bodies. Co-starring Tony Curtis (The Great Impostor), Angie Dickinson (The Art of Love), Eddie Albert (Attack), Robert Duvall (Tender Mercies), Dick Sargent (TV’s Bewitched) and Bobby Darin (Come September), this critically acclaimed film is just what the doctor ordered! Captain Newman, M.D. was nominated for three Oscars: Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Darin), Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium (Richard L. Breen, Phoebe Ephron, Henry Ephron) and Best Sound (Waldon O. Watson).
