I'd like to express my gratitude not only to Kino, but to Universal (if anyone from there is reading). They're not only engaging in this new deal here, but they've recently been working with the boutique film score labels - particularly La-La Land Records - to release catalog titles on CD through the Universal Pictures Film Music Heritage Collection.

At a time when studios are merging, asking higher prices etc, Universal is remaining accessible and apparently reasonable. Kudos to them.

Sir, might the Bob Hope feature THE CAT AND THE CANARY (1939) be among your acquisitions? Many thanks.

I posted those comments last August. I wonder how the film Madigan ended up doing for Kino. If it did okay, then maybe the short-lived series could be the Universal series in this deal.

Without posting my own wish list of unreleased Universal TV shows, I do hope the one in this deal turns out to be something that, like Madigan or many others, would be completely new to disc.

The Universal Vault mod of "Kiss" was always rather muddy/ghosty, so it's good to see this film get an upgrade, even though I admit I'm somewhat ambivalent towards the film itself. Still just like to see Nancy Carroll (not to mention Gloria Stuart!) make it into Blu-ray territory. I'd particularly like to see Carroll's "The Devil's Holiday" (1930-Paramount) make it to blu. She gives a really top-notch, memorable performance in that one.

I saw a stunning nitrate print of THE KISS BEFORE THE MIRROR at MOMA in the early 1970's. The visual quality just swept me away, and it's something I've never forgotten. All the surfaces in the rooms, especially the mirrors, seemed to glow with an almost unworldly fervor, capturing that "color out of space" in glorious black & white. Of course, I was quite young at the time, but I thought, this is how all movies should look. And yes, finallly having Nancy Carrol on Blu is certainly something to be joyous about.

    Mr. insider,

how does KINO decide on which titles to announce first? Is it based on the order the masters will be available, or another way, or random?

Titles with approved HD masters are usually the first ones, we usually wait a while before we announce titles in need of a new transfer. Also, are the extras done or not, is it a special edition with multiple extras.

Sometimes we announce a title which we think is ready, but run into unforeseen issues.

    Terror Train (1980)
    • Brand New 2K Master
    • NEW Interview with Director Roger Spottiswoode
    • NEW Interview with Screenwriter Judith Rascoe
    • Optional English Subtitles
    • Theatrical Trailer

Take an excursion into terror with Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Love Letters, The Fog) in this classic shocker from director Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, Under Fire, Shoot to Kill). It’s New Year’s Eve, and a group of college coeds have planned a masquerade bash aboard a chartered train. What they didn’t plan on was that a knife-wielding psycho would crash the party and begin slaughtering the guests one by one. Who is this brutal costumed killer? Could it be the mysterious magician (David Copperfield) with a talent for swordplay... a former frat pledge with an axe to grind... or any number of other guests, both invited and uninvited? Also starring Academy Award Winner Ben Johnson (The Last Picture Show, The Hunter, The Getaway, Dillinger, The Town That Dreaded Sundown), Hart Bochner (Die Hard, Apartment Zero), Sandee Currie (Gas, Street Justice) and D.D. Winters (aka Vanity, Action Jackson, 52 Pick-Up).
