Well, I thought I would purchase 10 items this time, and ended up with 18 in my cart before I realized it. I ultimately narrowed my cart down and purchased a "mere" 13. (And it would have been crazier if I'd also included the pre-order items I want.) As problems go, trying to decide among so many great releases is a rather nice problem to have.

    Here's what I ordered:

Acceptable Risks (1986) [the only DVD on my list; the rest are blu]
    Boomerang (1947)
    The Brink's Job (1978)
    The Champagne Murders (1967)
    Cold Sweat (1970)
    Grace Quigley (1985)
The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970)
    Midnight Lace (1960)
    Prime Cut (1972)
    Rider on the Rain (1970)
    Running Scared (1986)
    The Silent Partner (1978)
    They Might Be Giants (1971)

Now that Shout! has announced its Q4 titles and DUNE is not on their list, is it possible you guys have access to it via your Universal deal, after your much talked about release of LOST HIGHWAY?

Yeah, let's go through that again. It was fine here, but did you read the posts on the other forums?

I think the studio would most likely hold on to DUNE, so they can capitalize later upon the release of the remake.

Storm of the Century (1999) with optional English subtitles
    • Three-Part Mini-Series on 2 Discs
    • Audio Commentary by Stephen King and Director Craig R. Baxley
    • Trailers

An Unspeakable Evil Has Arrived! From Stephen King (The Shining, Salem’s Lot, Misery, Needful Things), the best-selling novelist of all time, comes the terrifying tale of a town besieged by evil. The inhabitants of a picturesque, sleepy little town on a small island off the coast of Maine find themselves completely cut off from the rest of the world when they are hit by the worst storm of the century. As snow steadily buries everything familiar and an eerie darkness envelops the town, terror arrives in the form of an enigmatic stranger who somehow knows the innermost secrets of the residents. After a succession of bizarre murders, and with no end to the storm in sight, the townspeople are forced to take drastic action before it’s too late. Starring Colm Feore (The Chronicles of Riddick), Tim Daly (TV’s Wings), Debrah Farentino (Son of the Pink Panther), Casey Siemaszko (Young Guns) and Jeffrey DeMunn (The Green Mile) with top-notch direction by Craig R. Baxley (I Come in Peace and TV’s Rose Red).

    Death Dreams (1991)
    • Audio Commentary by Film Historian/Author Amanda Reyes
    • Trailers

A Murder Mystery That Begins in the Beyond! George Westfield (Christopher Reeve, Superman, The Aviator) and his wife Crista (Marg Helgenberger, Species and TV’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) enjoy wealth, beauty and social rank. But when Crista’s daughter Jennie tragically drowns, their perfect world unravels. Without warning, Jennie contacts Crista from the beyond… to tell her mother how she really died. Bit by bit, clues pile up, evidence is found and what follows is a riveting murder-mystery that will haunt you long after the credits roll. Fionnula Flanagan (The Others) co-stars in this chiller directed by Martin Donovan (Apartment Zero).

Storm of the Century - why only on DVD. Seems like a step backward. Also, any chances of Outrageous Fortune with Bette Midler and Shelley Long, or I Love Trouble with Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte? Love that you're finally tapping into the Touchstone catalog with Hello Again, which looked fabulous. How about the director's cut of Pretty Woman? The current Blu only has the theatrical.

It was made for television in the mid-90s, so more than likely was edited and completed on SD video.

The Stand was also shot SD and is coming to Blu. True, it won't be 1080p in its truest resolution. Neither was Fraggle Rock. Didn't stop that deep catalog release from coming out in hi-def either. Just a question. Hoping someone at Kino has the answer.

Okay, true confession. I never particularly liked Storm of the Century. Like a good many of King's latter age TV adaptations, this one came on strong with a truly compelling narrative and bone-chilling thrills, only to peter out in the last act. It had potential. It just never attained greatness, IMO. The Stand I similarly feel is uneven and falls apart in act 3. I'm still getting it, though. Already own the previously issued Storm of the Century DVD so I guess I'm stuck with that.

For The Stand, they've gone back and scanned the 35mm film elements, then redid the entire post-production process, including creating new effects. That should look excellent, but it's an expensive proposition.

I loved Storm of the Century. I thought it was extremely well done and got really emotional in Act 3, which is rare for me with a King adaptation except for De Palma’s Carrie. I really
hated those townspeople except for Daly and wanted to see them all die horrible deaths. :D

I’d definitely pick it up on blu but I understand the cost to go back to the original film elements and redo it all would be prohibitive. I’ll pick up the Kino dvd if the transfer is a step up from the existing dvd.
