I wasn't aware "State Fair" 1933 was in public domain. Of more interest to me is this quote from Wikipedia, concerning edits to the film when re released after the production code was enforced.

"Although the screenwriters cut the novel's depiction of a sexual affair between the daughter and a reporter, they kept the son's seduction by a trapeze artist. Moralists[who?] were particularly outraged by a scene in which Norman Foster and Sally Eilers' dialogue is heard off-screen while the camera reveals a rumpled bed and a negligee on the floor."
Does the complete version as released in 1933 exist?

I stand to be corrected but I don't believe State Fair has fallen into public domain but is still the property of Fox who remade the film in 1945 and 1962. If you have information to the contrary, I, for one, would like to know more.

I do not think it is, as it just got a brand new 4k restoration by Fox.

I guess it isn't. I was told by another that it was; I'm am probably wrong.

If Fox has restored it, I would hope it could be released on Blu Ray. Maybe they can restore and release The Pied Piper too.

Sorry this is off topic, please return to KINO only.

    Mr. Insider,

If KINO does another deal with FOX, could STATE FAIR be a title you’d look at? It was never released on DVD...

And if you do another deal with UNIVERSAL, would you look st SKIPPY? It too was never released on DVD.

I’m sorry if this is redundant. Have you said what the sound format will be for Sweet Charity? And does anyone know just what the “full dimensional sound” of the original 70mm blow-up release was? Thanks!

I'd like to know this too. I remember getting the VHS way, way back and the soundtrack sounded wonderfully uncompressed. It just went BOOM from the opening note.

Man, there is some back story about this film as I believe good friends Widmark and Malden had a falling out during this film's production. I think Widmark talked about it during Biography's segment on him.

If that's the case, it would be AMAZING if KINO could get that BIOGRAPHY, or even just license the clip as a bonus feature.

Extremely unlikely as that biography is already on Twilight Time's blu ray of Hell And High Water.

In that case, I'll watch it tonight.

In an on-stage interview very late in his life Richard Widmark said Karl Malden was his closest friend, so whatever problems they had while making this film, they patched things up afterwards.

It's also on the Twilight Time's "Don't Bother to Knock" Blu-ray. By the way, that Biography episode has a young Eddie Muller offering some comments about Widmark.

As Malden stated, it was like a fight between two brothers. Very intense, but most of the time quickly forgotten. They were basically life-long friends similar to Fonda and Stewart in that regard.
