Coming March 26th on Blu-ray!

The Tarnished Angels (1958) with optional English subtitles
• NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Imogen Sara Smith
• Theatrical Trailer

B&W 91 Minutes 2.35:1 Not Rated
Set in the 1930s Depression era during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, The Tarnished Angels covers three days in the lives of a trio of flying-circus performers, headlined by former WWI fighter-pilot hero Roger Shumann (Robert Stack, Bwana Devil) and his beautiful blonde wife, LaVerne (Dorothy Malone, The Last Sunset). Romantic complications arise when newspaper reporter Burke Devlin (Rock Hudson, Blindfold) falls in love with LaVerne while covering their daredevil aerial show. Legendary filmmaker Douglas Sirk (Magnificent Obsession, All That Heaven Allows, Written on the Wind, Imitation of Life) directed this masterpiece based on a novel by William Faulkner (The Reivers), adapted for the screen by George Zuckerman (99 River Street).

A lot of it is tied up with contractual obligations. Actors have it in their contract where their billing is (above the title, below the title, special billing as in "And Jane Doe as Sarah" etc.). In 1970, Diane Keaton was not a "name", she was an unknown actress and her part is very small. She did not have the clout to have her name above the title nor did the size of her role justify it.

Maybe so, but 48 years later, I don't know why they AREN'T ALLOWED to put her name on the cover. It's weird to me.

She was never part of the original billing block, these contractual agreements are signed in blood and are usually impossible to change.

I know Kino said they probably wouldn't release any more Republic serials, but how about a Universal serial? Universal restored The Jungle Mystery three years ago and is just sitting on it. If Kino could score a release of that on DVD or Blu Ray, it would be huge since that particular serial is one of the ones that's never been available, even in bootleg format.

No more serial for a while. Daredevils of the Red Circle had never been out and one of the best serials ever and it did not sell well.

Adventures of Captain Marvel sold very well, but that's not a surprise.

I love Daredevils of the Red Circle and watch it about once a year. Thank you for the release and wish it had sold better.

Oh, God! How awesome! This is an amazing thriller. Can't wait. And, Kino, thanks for the quick response to my inquiry regarding QUATERMASS II. Have a great New Year, folks.

I would love to see The Crimson Ghost serial get a Blu ray release, speaking of serials - that's one Ive seen requested around the horn every now and then
Bummer about Daredevils of the Red Circle.. I bought it blindly and I love it - maybe the fan base for it is small and/or it's not a title many recognize ? I definitely urge fans of serials to give it a go !

Speaking of Universal restorations, I remember that they had restored or were in the process of restoring the Henry Aldrich series a few years ago. I'm wondering if Kino managed to acquire any of the titles for release as part of the deal with Universal.

I'd love to see Kino release that entire series! Great stuff, to be sure. Of course pie in the sky would be Columbia/King Features getting their act together and restoring the Blondie series and Kino releasing all of them on Blu.

Any good news for us fans of 40’s and 50’s westerns? I can’t deny it really took the wind out of my sails to hear the Roy Rogers releases didn’t perform as expected.

We have a few coming through our Universal deal.

Anything beyond Bend of the River that has been announced? I'd love to see you folks put out a Joel McCrea or Audie Murphy Universal western.

Just a couple odd questions relating more to the silent classics part of the Kino library. I wonder if there might be any plans to obtain and release the beautifully restored 1914 Cabiria now housed at the National Museum of Cinema in Turin Italy? Kino released the earlier version as a DVD some years ago. The restored version, which played at the 2006 Cannes Festival, was a sensation. Also, a new Murnau-Stiftung blu ray set from Germany includes restorations of Zapatas Bande (1914) Als ich tot war (1915) Asphalt (1929) Viktor und Viktoria (1933) Romanze in Moll (1943) and Madeleine und der Legionär (1957). Might all or any of these be possibilities for future Kino releases?

Screen legends Clint Eastwood (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot) and Lee Van Cleef (Sabata) co-star as two rival bounty hunters who join forces to bring murderous bandit El Indio (Gian Maria Volontè, Face to Face) and his vicious gang of criminals to justice. But all is not as it seems in this hard-hitting second installment of Sergio Leone’s (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) trilogy starring Eastwood as the famed “Man with No Name.” Music by legendary composer Ennio Morricone (A Fistful of Dynamite, The Mercenary) with a stellar cast that includes spaghetti western legends Mario Brega (A Fistful of Dollars), Luigi Pistilli (Death Rides a Horse), Aldo Sambrell (Navajo Joe) and Klaus Kinski (The Great Silence).
