Great film, and I think Peter Sellers finest.
I think I'd have to agree with that :)

I can just about remember seeing & enjoying it at the cinema (1963, what a great year for films!) I have the StudioCanal Blu-ray, & it's about time SC got their finger out & released some more Peter Sellers films; Kino is beating them hands down!

it seems that SC's release came out in 2022, so it looks like this will be from a newer master?
At any rate, I am glad to see Kino release this and I'll get this to replace my old Shanachie DVD.

Na, I wouldn't think so. That was a new master that was released in 2022, & it looks great, no need for a remaster.

Early in her legendary Hollywood career (from Fritz Lang to Tim Burton), the luminous Sylvia Sidney starred in these 2 passion-packed, Pre-Code melodramas. Confessions of a Co-Ed (1931) – Through the intimate pages of her diary, Patricia Harper (Sidney) recalls her scandalous time at co-educational Stafford College. She becomes pregnant by the man she loves; but when circumstances prevent their union, she’s forced to make a devastating choice. Featuring a rare appearance by Bing Crosby and his musical “Rhythm Boys.” Ladies of the Big House (1931) – Young florist Kathleen Storm (Sidney) tries to save her husband (Gene Raymond) from the electric chair after both are sent to prison for a murder they didn’t commit. Suffering vicious treatment from the prison inmates, Kathleen quickly becomes desperate to escape and tell the world of their innocence. You’ll be gripped by the taut, sizzling drama in these rare films starring, as one Paramount advertisement declared, “the screen’s finest emotional actress—Sylvia Sidney!”

Always liked "Ladies of the Big House" (1931), and it will be marvelous to finally see this in something beyond a scratchy old 16mm tv-syndication print struck in the 1950s. "Confessions of a Co-Ed" (1931) is one of those bizarro 'college' movies where you never really see anyone studying or attending classes. Instead, you get a lot of glamorous co-eds just lounging around an art-deco sorority house talking about their dates. It's a hoot seeing the usually sweet, demure Claudia Dell playing a somewhat crazy-eyed nemesis to Sidney. I think my fave Martha Sleeper also has a small role as one of the sorority gals. Anyway, it's generally a fun film, at least until its rather ludicrous finale.

Hope Kino keeps making deals and digging into some of these often fascinating little corners of Paramount and Universal product. Lots of hidden gems waiting to be re-discovered.

A Great Cast… A Great Novel… A Great Motion Picture!
This 1949 retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved novel takes us back in time to The Roaring Twenties, an age of hot jazz and cold champagne. The great Alan Ladd (Shane) stars as Jay Gatsby, formerly Jake Gatz, who works his way from poor fisherman to extravagant Long Island millionaire and then risks it all to woo back his former love, the beautiful Daisy Buchanan (Betty Field, The Shepherd of the Hills). Shot with noir style by director Elliott Nugent (The Cat and the Canary), this rare and ravishing Paramount adaptation was made long before the book became canonized as The Great American Novel. The first-rate cast features Macdonald Carey, Ruth Hussey, Barry Sullivan, Howard da Silva, Ed Begley, Elisha Cook Jr. and Shelley Winters.

Jack Lemmon (The Apartment, The China Syndrome) won an Academy Award (Best Actor, 1973) for his dramatic performance in this searing Seventies classic by director John G. Avildsen (Rocky). Lemmon plays Harry Stoner, a man caught in violent collision with his past and present existence. He believes there is nothing significant in his life except survival, and that instinct pushes him beyond moral conduct. He’ll juggle the books, supply women for clients…and even set fire to his own dress manufacturing company. He is drawn to an America when life not only had values and heroes, but it all seemed worth living and building. But Harry is frightened to break away from the emptiness of his seemingly successful life. Save the Tiger grabbed early-’70s anxiety by the tail, and painted a dark portrait of a dying American dream. The acclaimed film earned additional Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Jack Gilford) and Original Screenplay (Steve Shagan).
