I also saw it when it came out, my mother being a fan of both stars. I've seen it since. Good comedy.
I only remember it was in very glossy black & white and both Ms. Day and Mr. Gable smiled a lot. Had some good character actors too. Entertaining. Paramount had a good formula for comedies back then. It will be nice to see it in decent shape.

There hasn't really been much for me from this Paramount deal. My tastes lean more toward more contemporary films. Was hoping to see more Miramax stuff from the 90's onward.

A living, crawling HELL ON EARTH! This classic 1977 creepshow stars the legendary William Shatner (Star Trek, The Devil’s Rain) as veterinarian “Rack” Hansen, faced with the puzzling death of a number of local farm animals. As even greater numbers of the helpless animals meet their deaths it is discovered that hundreds of tarantulas occupy the farm land. This is strange indeed! Tarantulas don’t live in colonies…or do they? An attractive entomologist (brilliantly portrayed by Tiffany Bolling, The Candy Snatchers) is called to the dusty little Arizona town to explain the sudden arrival of the spiders and their usual behavior. But is it too late? Time seems to be running out as the new species of eight-legged freaks now number in the thousands! Is it even possible to halt this arachnid explosion? The spiders are everywhere—and man is their prey! Directed by John “Bud” Cardos (The Dark, Mutant) and featuring Woody Strode (The Violent Breed), Lieux Dressler (Truck Stop Women) and Altovise Davis (Can’t Stop the Music).

In this classic film noir, a down-on-his-luck former boxing contender (John Payne, Larceny, The Boss), turned cab driver has to hide from the police when he’s accused of murdering his badgering wife when her lifeless body turns up in the back of his cab. On the run and out of time, he needs to bring the real killer to justice before the cops and the thugs responsible for the set-up get their hands on him. Top-notch direction by the great Phil Karlson (Kansas City Confidential, The Phoenix City Story) and featuring a great cast that includes Evelyn Keyes (Iron Man), Brad Dexter (Run Silent, Run Deep), Frank Faylen (The Looters), Peggie Castle (Back from the Dead) and Jay Adler (The Killing).

NOTE: This is the same transfer as our 2016 release, but encoded at a higher bit rate and on a dual-layered BD50 disc, giving the feature 30mbps or more. So, it should look better than the previous release that was on a BD25 single layered disc. We added English subtitles and a slipcase.

Relentless In His Vengeance!
Deadly In His Violence! Screen legend Burt Reynolds (White Lightning, The Longest Yard) stars in this classic western about a fearless Native American with a relentless vendetta. A band of outlaws, headed by a sullen leader Duncan (Aldo Sambrell, For a Few Dollars More), sweeps across the country like the plague, destroying everything in its path including a Navajo village. The outlaws arrive in the town of Esperanza, where they are hired by a crooked doctor to hijack a bank train and share in the wealth. But the sole survivor from the Indian village, a renegade Navajo named Joe (Reynolds), foils the plan by relocating the money. An irate Duncan holds Joe’s beautiful sweetheart (Nicoletta Machiavelli, The Hills Run Red) hostage until Joe surrenders… Joe once again must take on Duncan and his ruthless comrades with unforgettable vengeance. Featuring the great Fernando Rey (The French Connection) with top-notch direction by spaghetti western legend Sergio Corbucci (Django, The Hellbenders, The Great Silence) with a rousing and now classic score by the legendary Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly).

NOTE: This is the same transfer as our 2015 release, but encoded at a higher bit rate and on a dual-layered BD50 disc, giving the feature 30mbps or more. So, it should look better than the previous release that was on a BD25 single layered disc. We added a brand-new Alex Cox audio commentary, English subtitles and a slipcase.

Hollywood legends Lee Marvin (Point Blank, Monte Walsh) and Gene Hackman (Mississippi Burning, The Package) square off in one of the most explosive screen confrontations ever. Marvin is an underworld enforcer sent to Kansas City to collect money from Hackman, a mysterious mobster who has no intention of paying up. A meat packing plant fronts for Hackman's real business dealings: drugs, prostitution and human trafficking. Michael Ritchie's (The Candidate, Fletch) breakneck direction propels the action along with the speed of bullets. From a shoot-out at a country fair to the final cataclysmic showdown, Prime Cut is prime excitement! Punctuated with ruthless performances by Marvin and Hackman and stellar supporting ones by Angel Tompkins (The Don is Dead, Murphy’s Law), Gregory Walcott (Man of the East, The Eiger Sanction) and the great Sissy Spacek (Carrie, The River) in her acting debut. In this gangster comedy to end all gangster comedies, the inimitable Alec Guinness (Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Lavender Hill Mob) is Professor Marcus, ostensibly a musician and academic, who rents a London flat from a sweet old lady (BAFTA-winning Katie Johnson). He tells her that, from time to time, several other musicians will visit in order to rehearse. In truth, the professor can’t play a note, nor can his visitors: he’s a criminal mastermind, holding court over his gang of thieves, including the likes of punkish Harry (the first major film role for Peter Sellers, The Pink Panther), the homicidal Louis (Herbert Lom, A Shot in the Dark), veteran criminal Claude (Cecil Parker, The Man in the White Suit) and punch-drunk One-Round (Danny Green, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad). The gang use Professor Marcus’s flat as headquarters as they conceive a daring 60,000-pound robbery in this killingly funny Ealing Studios classic directed by Alexander Mackendrick (Sweet Smell of Success) from a BAFTA-winning, Oscar-nominated script by William Rose (The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming). Co-Starring Jack Warner (It Always Rains on Sunday, The Quatermass Xperiment).

Am I allowed to say that I feel the 1.33:1 version is redundant?

Am I allowed to say that I feel the 1.33:1 version is redundant?
Yes, but it's not. There are two different aspect ratios. I don't know about this particular film, but often 1.33:1 shows much more information and was specifically considered when the film was originally shot, especially in this time period. Although I have no desire to see a pan and scan version of a vista vision film, I support the availability of both a "full screen" and a cropped widescreen version where available.

When I was 16, in my first job at a movie theater, I was tearing tickets one day and a little girl comes up and hands me two tickets. Her mother was behind her, and I said "These tickets are for Sudden Death, is that the movie you want to see?"
She says yes, it's fine. After telling her it was R rated, and her telling me it was fine a few more times, I directed them to the auditorium.
About 30 minutes later she comes out going "I didn't realize that movie was so intense" and asked if there was something else they could watch.
I looked at the schedule and told her Jumanji was about to start.
"Oh, I heard that movie was really scary"
She refunded her tickets and left.

That's a memory that will never leave me, and I can't watch this movie without thinking about that interaction. Jumanji too.

Never seen the film, but I recall it had a great 80's soundtrack that generated several chart hits from Pretty Poison ("Catch Me I'm Falling"); Scarlett & Black ("You Don't Know"), Boy George ("Live My Life"), and Roy Orbison & k.d. lang ("Crying").

Fantastic! This is a personal favorite of mine along with The Heavenly Kid, Peggy Sue Got Married & La Bamba — all that came out around this time. It’s in the teen comedy genre but I think it’s a step above that. Jon Cryer , Keith Coogan & Annabeth Gish are great in early career roles. I Never put two & two together that Keith Coogan was Jackie Coogans grandson when I originally saw it in the 80’s. I’m a huge Roy Orbison fan & his duet here with KD Lang is outstanding. Part of his 80’s comeback along with “In Dreams“ from Blue Velvet before he left us way too soon. I remember sitting in class when the teacher announced he died and holding back the tears . I think I was the only kid in class who knew who he was.
