Laws of Gravity (1992)
• NEW Audio Commentary by Writer/Director Nick Gomez, Moderated by Historian/Filmmaker Daniel Kremer
• Theatrical Trailer
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 100 Minutes 1.85:1 Rated R
The acclaimed debut of filmmaker Nick Gomez (New Jersey Drive), Laws of Gravity is a gritty, unflinching and frighteningly real look at small-time Brooklyn hoods who live and die by different laws. Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction, The Mask) and Adam Trese (The Underneath) star as Jimmy and Jon, two petty crooks who find the opportunity for a big score when Frankie, an old friend and ex-con, arrives in town with a load of illegal handguns for sale. The guns are the source of tension for the friends and their families. When a domestic dispute lands Jon in jail, Jimmy goes to sell the guns to raise the bail. But when Frankie discovers that his merchandise is missing, he goes after Jimmy and the guns. One of the hardest-hitting independent films of the 1990s, Laws of Gravity co-stars Edie Falco (TV’s The Sopranos), Arabella Field (Naked in New York) and Paul Schulze (Drowning Mona).

An upgraded Hallelujah Trail will be most welcome, and reasonable people understand that 70mm restorations are crazy expensive. It’s a shame though that the Ultra Panavision 2.76:1 rendition can’t be had, and the full roadshow experience, which should clock in at about 166 minutes, may never be available. I’ll be picking this up in any case. Perfection cannot be the enemy of the good.
The 165 minute running time listed on lots of websites has to be incorrect, our master includes all the Roadshow audio and it has a running time of 156 minutes.

Cuts were made early on. So there were definitely two cuts for the film.

I located a box of 70mm print trims at Todd-AO c. 1989.

Only way to know for certain is printing records.

Yes, but as shown in the multiple threads discussing this release announcement, there are questions about more than just the quality of the video (such as aspect ratio, running time, and sound).
Sound is always a toss-up with KL. They rarely mention it in their announcements or on their disc packaging. The only review I found of the DVD of THE HALLELUJAH TRAIL said that the sound was in 5.1. Olive's Blu-ray was said to be in 2.0 (opinions differed as to whether it was dual mono, stereo, or matrix surround). I suspect that KL's will also be an unspecified 2.0.

Someone timed the music on the laserdisc release as running 9:40 [OVERTURE (3:25), INTERMISSION (0:25), ENTR'ACTE (2:25), EXIT MUSIC (3:25)]. So that means that the film proper runs 146 minutes.

Coming to Blu-ray November 29th from Kino Classics!

PICPUS (1943) and CÉCILE IS DEAD! (1944)

An INSPECTOR MAIGRET DOUBLE FEATURE From the Novels by GEORGES SIMENON

Pre-order: https://www.kinolorber.com/product/p...eature-blu-ray

With trademark hat and pipe, Albert Préjean (Princess Tam Tam) stars as the venerable Inspector Maigret in two first-rate Georges Simenon adaptations from the 1940s.

PICPUS (1943)
Whilst moving into her new Paris apartment, Madame Dumont discovers a dead body in her wardrobe. Soon more corpses pile up near the metro station Picpus and the eponymous street: a clairvoyant, a blind man, a doctor, a real estate agent. These people have certainly got something in common, but what can it be? Maigret is summoned to investigate in this thrilling whodunit from director Richard Pottier (Fanfare d’Amour).

CÉCILE IS DEAD! (1944)
Santa Relli (Jour de Fête) plays a young woman named Cécile, who keeps coming to Quai des Orfèvres to see Inspector Maigret about disturbing events in her household. The esteemed detective and his colleagues are annoyed... until Cécile winds up dead. Maigret must crack the mystery in this stylish film noir from director Maurice Tourneur (Lorna Doone).

Included:
*Limited edition O-Card
*Optional English subtitles

The July 2, 1965 review in the NY Times has the running time of 165 minutes. Of course the running time could include the time between when the intermission and entr'acte music played (maybe 10 minutes?), but I doubt it.

The Ballad of the Sad Café (1991)
Directed by Simon Callow
Starring Vanessa Redgrave, Keith Carradine, Rod Steiger

Pre-order: https://www.kinolorber.com/product/t...d-cafe-blu-ray

Cohen Film Collection presents a new restoration of a Merchant Ivory classic. Oscar®-winners Vanessa Redgrave, Keith Carradine, and Rod Steiger star in this adaptation of the Carson McCullers novella and the Edward Albee play adapted from it. Merchant Ivory veteran Simon Callow’s only turn as a director is a twisted Southern Gothic dark comedy set in a small rural town in the deep South. Redgrave plays Miss Amelia, the eccentric proprietor of the town’s only cafe and, more importantly to her grip on the townsfolk, the proprietor of a secret moonshine still. Her domineering hold on the town is threatened when two strangers appear with a claim on her past.

I recall this being released and thinking that it was an incongruous role for Robbie Benson.

Congratulations on the your announcement on the "The Hallelujah Trail" (1965), I must admit.

Now for the fun part:
This is the cut version of Hallelujah?
Pros: The 2K transfer from 35mm IP (from General Release Version [not counting extended scenes from the Pan-and-Scan 1991 MGM/UA VHS]) will indeed look ten times better than Olive Films BD.
The 165 minute running time listed on lots of websites has to be incorrect, our master includes all the Roadshow audio and it has a running time of 156 minutes.
Or missing music?
Cons: The Main Title theme will be taken from the album version instead of the actual film version (retained on the international dubs). (At the time during the VHS/LD era, MGM couldn't find the stereo material for the first reel of the film.) Furthermore the Overture will be tracked during the exit music.

In conclusion: Since it's about permissions from MGM (as i'm neither a restorer nor a remasterer), I'm not qualified to declare on how it is going to take seven figures to tackle with either films, and I take my hat off to claim this BD when it comes out, as it is going to be the definitive presentation, till we get a miracle from the owners to get a green light for a better treatment of either of the two films from 65mm/70mm elements, and I rest my case. :)

Coming to Blu-ray December 13th from Cohen Media Group and Kino Lorber!

On The Yard (1978) and A Walk on the Moon (1987): Two Films Directed by Raphael D. Silver

COHEN FILM COLLECTION Presents Two NEWLY RESTORED and RARELY SEEN Films Directed By RAPHAEL D. SILVER.

ON THE YARD (1978)
Directed by Raphael D. Silver
Starring John Heard, Thomas G. Waites

Landing himself in a state penitentiary, Juleson (John Heard), a bookish con artist, fails to adjust to the intricate social order of the prison system. Juleson’s independent way of thinking does little to impress his fellow inmates and runs him afoul of Chilly (Thomas Waites), the leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the prison. Facing a group of cold-blooded killers on his own, Juleson discovers firsthand what individualism can bring to a loner behind bars.

A WALK ON THE MOON (1987)
Directed by Raphael D. Silver
Starring Evanjelina Martinez, Kevin Anderson, Tery Kinney, Pedro Armendáriz Jr.

Summer 1969. The Apollo 11 mission brought the first human to set foot on the moon and with it a renewed sense of optimism that anything is possible, while on a farm in upstate New York, Woodstock would become an icon of the power of the counterculture’s influence on America and the world. It’s against this backdrop that the story of an idealistic Peace Corps volunteer named Everett Jones (played by Steppenwolf Theatre Ensemble regular Kevin Anderson) assigned to a remote Colombian village is set. When he arrives, he is confused by the cynical attitude of his predecessor (Terry Kinney, Steppenwolf co-founder) and the apathy the villagers seem to hold toward him. It’s both a tale of hubris and hope, as Jones attempts to bring his version of progress to the rural village. Featuring stunning color cinematography by Adam Greenberg (TERMINATOR, GHOST, NEAR DARK), this feature was produced by director Raphael and Joan Micklin Silver’s daughter Dina and includes an extended cameo by Claudia Silver.

Includes:
*ON THE YARD Trailer
*Optional English SDH subtitles

Have you actually seen the extended scenes on the 1991 VHS tape or is it the same as the laserdisc which says 166 minutes on the back cover but is actually 155?

Screen legend Paul Newman (Twilight) delivers a brilliant performance as Sully, an out-of-work, hard-headed and hard-working construction worker with bad knees and a worse attitude. When the son he walked out on, Dylan Wash (Betsy’s Wedding), shows up with his grandson, Sully is forced to deal with emotions he’d prefer to forget. Sully’s overbearing landlord, Jessica Tandy (Driving Miss Daisy), in one of her last performances, and his ex-boss’ wife, Melanie Griffith (Paradise), are the women in his life that get to see a bit of his softer side. But it’s the new relationship with his grandson that really gets to him. This touching slice-of-life story garnered Academy Award nominations for Newman and writer/director Robert Benton (Kramer vs. Kramer, Places in the Heart), and features Bruce Willis (Billy Bathgate), Pruitt Taylor Vince (China Moon), Gene Saks (A Thousand Clowns), Josef Sommer (Still of the Night), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Boogie Nights) and Philip Bosco (Angie).
