A disturbed woman, adrift in steamy sexual fantasies. A New York psychiatrist who seems to have taken on one patient too many. A beautiful call girl caught between the cops and a vicious razor-wielding killer…and the killer herself: a tall, blonde, elusive psycho named Bobbi. Dressed to Kill contains all the heart-stopping elements of a classic suspense thriller. But legendary writer-director Brian De Palma (Carrie, The Fury, Blow Out, Scarface, The Untouchables) turns up the heat and takes them one step further to create a masterpiece. Screen legend Michael Caine (The Ipcress File, The Italian Job) stars as a fashionable Manhattan therapist faced with a murderous puzzle: the sudden, hideous slaying of one of his patients—with a straight razor stolen from his office. Desperate to find the slasher before anyone else is hurt, the doctor soon finds himself lost in a provocative and deadly maze of obsession, deviance and deceit. Stunningly scored by Pino Donaggio (Body Double) with terrific turns by Angie Dickinson (Pretty Maids All in a Row), Nancy Allen (RoboCop), Dennis Franz (American Buffalo) and Keith Gordon (Christine), Dressed to Kill is a psychosexual tour de force from the modern master of the macabre.

Is this the theatrical R-rated version or the unrated version, or both?

LONELYHEARTS (1959)
• Brand New HD Master by MGM
• Theatrical Trailer
• Optional English Subtitles

B&W 103 Minutes 1.85:1 Not Rated
A riveting drama of an idealist caught up in the rough-and-tumble world of newspaper journalism, Lonelyhearts stars screen legend Montgomery Clift (Judgment at Nuremberg, Freud) in a haunting performance as Adam White, whose whole life changes when he joins the staff of The Chronicle as advice columnist “Miss Lonelyhearts.” But at what cost to his personal happiness? White’s relationship with Justy Sargeant (Dolores Hart, King Creole) is soon threatened by his involvement with his career and his sympathy for the poor souls who bear all to Miss Lonelyhearts. The great Robert Ryan (Horizons West, Day of the Outlaw) brilliantly portrays the world-weary and fiercely cynical editor, Bill Shrike, and Myrna Loy (Love Me Tonight, Midnight Lace) is stunning in an uncharacteristic role as Shrike’s neglected and troubled wife. Completing the stellar cast is Maureen Stapleton (Reds) in her Oscar-nominated film debut. From the acclaimed novel by Nathaniel West (The Day of the Locust), the daring Lonelyhearts is a spellbinding view of ambition, greed and human frailty. Directed by television and film veteran Vincent J. Donehue (Sunrise at Campobello).

It's too bad there isn't an audio commentary for this Blu-ray release. A movie and a cast made for such a commentary.

Great news about "Detective Story". A fine, fine film.
Eleanor Parker had already given notice of her impressive artistry as Mildred in 1946's "Of Human Bondage".
But she was absolutely on fire in the 50's. Back to back Oscar nominations for "Caged" and "Detective Story", followed by sensational work in "Scaramouche", "The Naked Jungle" and "The King and Four Queens" among others. Right up there with the top talents of her era. And beautiful too. Will be so glad to add "Detective Story" to my Blu-ray collection. And - oh yes - the film also includes one of Kirk Douglas' greatest performances.

I only remember her as the Baroness in some unheard of Robert Wise Rogers' & Hammerstein movie ;)!

(A thankless role which she showed dignified class and grace ...)
