Man’s Favorite Sport? (1964)

• NEW Audio Commentary by Filmmaker/Historian Michael Schlesinger with Select Remarks by Co-Star Paula Prentiss and Actor/Director Richard Benjamin
• Theatrical Trailer
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 120 Minutes 1.85:1 Not Rated
From legendary Hollywood director Howard Hawks (Rio Bravo, El Dorado), Man’s Favorite Sport? is a hilarious fish-out-of-water tale in the screwball style of Hawks’ classic Bringing Up Baby. Rock Hudson (Come September, Blindfold) is Roger Willoughby, happily employed as one of the world’s great angling experts. Unfortunately, even his own boss doesn’t know that Roger has never been fishing in his life. So when press agent Abigail Page (Paula Prentiss, What’s New Pussycat?, The Black Marble) arranges for Roger to participate in her resort’s upcoming fishing tournament, he’s thrown into a panic. At the resort, he and Abby commence a crash course to turn him into a genuine outdoorsman—only to have their plan riotously upset by a surprise visit from Roger’s fiancée. With a sparkling score by composer Henry Mancini (The Pink Panther), Man’s Favorite Sport? is a comedy classic you’ll fall for hook, line and sinker!

Strange Bedfellows (1965)

• NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Eddy Von Mueller
• Theatrical Trailer
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 98 Minutes 1.85:1 Not Rated
Screen great Rock Hudson (Man’s Favorite Sport?) and Italian bombshell Gina Lollobrigida (Come September) are an estranged couple on the verge of a riotous reconciliation in this delightful comic confection. Carter Harrison (Hudson) is a high-powered company exec who needs to polish up his public image. When a P.R. expert (Gig Young, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?) tells him the answer lies in patching up his shaky marriage, Carter jets off to London to rekindle the affections of his fiery Italian wife Toni (Lollobrigida)—who is already planning her second marriage. But even as she begins to repeat the outrageously eccentric behaviors that split them up in the first place, Carter finds himself falling in love with the irresistible Toni all over again. Wonderfully directed by Melvin Frank (Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell, A Touch of Class), Strange Bedfellows is a rollicking cinematic treat filled with slapstick antics and hilarious sight gags!

Interesting...this was released on Blu Ray a few years ago by Universal. The cover art is different. I wonder if it is a new transfer?

If Kino didn't list a new scan then it's the same one used beforehand by Universal. This applies to Man's Favorite Sport and Strange Bedfellows.

Odd that KL would put Strange Bedfellows and Man's Favorite Sport out on blu when the previous blu rays are readily available. Of course, they don't have the addition of the new audio commentaries.

I like both Man's Favorite Sport and Strange Bedfellows but i already have both on blu ray. Maybe down the line if they are on sale really cheap. I assume they are both from the same source as the Universal Blus.

Unlock the door to The Apartment and welcome legendary director Billy Wilder (Some Like It Hot) and screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond (One, Two, Three) at their scathing, satirical best. C.C. “Bud” Baxter (Jack Lemmon, The Fortune Cookie) knows the way to success in business…it’s through the door of his apartment! By providing a perfect hideaway for philandering bosses, the ambitious young employee reaps a series of undeserved promotions. But when Bud lends the key to big boss J.D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray, Double Indemnity), he not only advances his career, but his own love life as well. For Sheldrake’s mistress is the lovely Fran Kubilek (Shirley MacLaine, Irma La Douce), elevator girl and angel of Bud’s dreams. Convinced that he is the only man for Fran, Bud must make the most important executive decision of his career: lose the girl…or his job. By turns heartwarming and heartbreaking, The Apartment won five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Movie-wise, there has never been anything like it…love-wise, laugh-wise or otherwise-wise!

The Devil Strikes at Night (1957)
Directed by Robert Siodmak
Starring Claus Holm, Mario Adorf, Hannes Messemer, Peter Carsten

The murder of a Hamburg barmaid seems an open-and-shut case until a recently demobilized Nazi soldier, reassigned to the police force, suspects it’s the work of a serial killer. His efforts to bring the murderer to justice run afoul of the Reich, which fears the culprit is Aryan—not the foreigner, gypsy or Jew they would prefer. Director Robert Siodmak, the greatest practitioner of Hollywood noir (Criss Cross, The Killers, Phantom Lady, et al.), returned to Germany in the 1950s to finish his career. This was the most powerful film of those later years, a subtle yet scathing payback to the Nazis that chased him from his homeland. Based on the true story of murderer Bruno Lüdke, Siodmak creates a tense policier that’s also a psychological drama exploring how some of those who did not flee the Reich struggled to maintain their integrity and morality in the face of overwhelming corruption and evil. — Eddie Muller, Film Noir Foundation

Special features:
*Audio commentary by film historian Imogen Sara Smith
*Optional English subtitles
