NEWS - Kid Rock Says Radiohead's OK For Computers, Not Parties

    03/28/2002

(3/28/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Radiohead is one of the most critically acclaimed modern rock bands of the decade, but don't count rap-rocker Kid Rock as a fan. The "American Bad Ass" recently told LAUNCH that he doesn't understand all the fuss about the veteran British band.

Rock explained, "I mean, I'm sure nice guys, and we could probably have a beer and have a great time hanging out, but I don't just don't like the music," he said. "I do not get it at all. I haven't given a lot of it a chance. It might be ignorant on my part, but for the most part I've seen a few live things and heard some records. If I'm having a party and I've got some chicks over hanging out, and all my boys are hanging out, I'm not grabbing for the Radiohead CD. Flat out, it's not gonna happen. If I'm in the office with all my computer buddies and we're trying to design a website, I might put on Radiohead."

Asking Kid Rock about Radiohead is like asking me about shoes and makeup. Sure, we may have opinions on the subject, but who cares?

Who's Kid Rock? Interesting that I agree with him completely.

He has a good point, and it just about sums up Radiohead for me. I saw them in concert once, and that was a big YAWN, but they're good on record. It's not party music though.

Not that it matters much what Kid Rock thinks, but news outlets love to see celebrities comment on other celebrities/artists.

Actually, I think it was Kid Rock who said something to the effect of (not a quote, just the jist of the statement):

"I just enjoy making my style of music. I'm not trying to be Radiohead, who always do something new."

He seemed to say that with a fair amount of respect. I think he does recognize the fact that Radiohead is one of the most innovative bands around.

I'm a big Radiohead fan, but I'd have to agree with KR, you couldn't play Kid A or OK Computer at a party and get the same effect as playing something more "rockin'", especially at the type of scene he describes.

The genres and fan base are way too different.

    Anthony_J,

You can pick me up on your way out to Cali! Its not a party around here unless you got "Boot Scootin' Boogie" on the ol' tape player!

Kid Rock....hmmmm....wonder if he has HepC now? Was sad about his midget dying though.
