I picked up Keb'Mo' The Door on CD over the weekend and am quite impressed with it. Actually, I bought a Tower Records exclusive version that has a second disc with four extra tracks. I've only listened to the main disc (The Door) and really like the music. It's very mellow. I will definitely get it on SACD. Can anyone recommend any of his other albums? How do they compare to The Door?
Also, can anyone recommend other modern blues artists similar to Keb'Mo' that I might like? Any of it out on SACD? Thanks in advance.

I can't think of anyone quite like Keb' Mo'. For modern blues you can't go wrong with Robert Cray or Etta James. Or John Hammond's "Wicked Grin" - all Tom Waits' songs.
My favorite Keb', however, is "Slow Down". Good stuff.

Keith,
Definitley get the SACD!!! It's Phenomenal! Keb is RIGHT THERE in the room.
Also grab his latest...Big Wide Grin. It's dedicated to his children, it's a great record. :)

Ric, I figured you would chime in about the SACD. :) From what I have heard from the CD, I fully expect the SACD to be excellent. I am going to get it, and I expect it to join "reference" status along with SACDs such as Rebecca Pidgeon The Raven, James Taylor Hourglass, and FIM Audiophile Reference IV. Thanks for the Big Wide Grin suggestion.

Check out Doug MacLeod. You'll probably like most of his work. I'm not at all good at describing music, so I'll simply link to MacLeod's AllMusic.com entry.

Apparently we Robs have similar taste--Keb's debut CD is still my favorite as well.

Aaaah,

One of my favorite artists. I also recommend Slow Down and I liked Big Wide Grin but not as much as The Door.

The Door is truly a good recording - crystal clear guitar sound and a tight band make for a great recording AND performance.

I saw him at the Stereophile Hifi show last year and it wa sone of the best concerts because of a somewhat small venue and a great band to listen to and watch live.

Let's hope Sony/Epic keep more Super Audios coming from this guy. It's the only way to listen!

Lee, I agree with you about The Door. The album is great from beginning to end, and the recording is excellent. You really hear the edge in his voice. It sounds like he is in the room. I still need to check out his other albums.

Keith--
Get ALL of it! ;) All the CDs AND the DVD! They all sound great--great performances and great recordings.
The debut CD is still my fave. Favorite track: Angelina.
Big Wide Grin has got some neat covers on it. If you're in a patriotic sort of mood, he does an incredible version of America The Beautiful.

I agree about getting the SACD of "The Door". It sounds incredible.

Also agree about "Sessions at West 54th" DVD. Very intimate concert with a great performance and sound.

O.K. Sounds reasonable to me. :) I'll do a CD at a time and give myself a chance to digest each one. I love The Door, and hopefully the other titles will do it for me.

If you REALLY like "The Door" that much, you will NOT be disappointed by the rest.
And you can take that to the bank! :D
