I was looking at a Canadian DVD site, and I saw a pre-order for the acclaimed film Kandahar, coming May 14.

The DVD appears to be anamorphic and with a ton of extra features: commentary, making-of and the like.

This movie was just at my local art-house theatre about a month or two ago and I haven't heard anything yet about a US release.

I'm thinking of getting it since I heard so many great things about it and I missed it. Does anyone know if the US version is coming? I'd hate to wait months for it and then it turn up bare-bones.

I wanted to post the info here in case anyone else was interested in this movie on DVD.

I saw this film again on TV last month... very surprising. It was being shown on a local TV station in its original language with subtitles, and in its OAR!!! I couldn't believe it! :)
Anyway, this is a film that everyone should see especially because of its relevance to the recent events in Afghanistan. I haven't heard any news of a U.S. DVD release for this film, but it may not be such a bad idea to import the Canadian edition.

See this thread for more details.
According to my studio contact I will have a review copy in my hands tommorow :). He's already sent me the booklet and full cover art.

I have what appears to be the first review of this disc and it's now online over at Link Removed
It's an excellent release. Seville did a bang up job on this one.

Great review! I was stunned when I read that the bitrate was "at an average of 9.9 Mb per second"!!! Along with "Amélie", this DVD is giving Canadian releases a good reputation. :)

Thanks Michael.

I was also surprised that the bitrate was so high. I was told ahead of time that the bitrate was mastered at "Criterion Collection levels" and that I should take a look at when I got the DVD.

Given that my Panasonic doesn't have a bitrate display. I downloaded some quick and dirty software that measured bitrate's and that's what it said. I was shocked and almost didn't believe it. I even posted a thread in polls to see if having a bitrate that high was even possible. Hopefully the piece of software isn't lying but a quick check on my upstairs Pioneer player shows that this doesn't appear to be the case.

It's really quite a stellar release and I hope it sells alot of copies both here in Canada and as an import or online purchase in the US.

No. Sorry the advance copy I received was just the disc itself since the final artwork hadn't been printed yet.

I've been told they are sending me the final product but they are holding off on doing that untill they can send me some other new titles to review.

I'll try and find out the UPC for you though. My contact at Seville should still be in the office.

Mark.

Thank you very much Mark

None of the Canadian sites have UPC codes, like say image or dvdempire. It can be difficult to hunt them down.

Actually none is the wrong word, chapters.indigo.com sometimes has UPC codes.
