Just read the official specs for Justice League from Warner Brothers arriving on April 23rd. I was excited about the quick release of the premeire episode arc on DVD until I learned it will be in 1.33:1 only. Cartoon Network has been showing these in Widescreen (as well as 1.33). Is there any reason why an anamorphic widescreen version couldn't be included in this DVD release.
I guess I should come to expect this from Warner Brothers "Family" titles.

Before everyone goes throwing a hissy-fit over the fact that the new JUSTICE LEAGUE DVD isn't in widescreen format, did you bother to look into it???

If you had, then you would know that the way that Cartoon Network MAKES the widescreen broadcasts is by CHOPPING OFF the top and bottom of the picture to give it a widescreen ratio.

So, in essence you are losing picture by watching this series in widescreen, even if it is the way that Bruce Timm personally prefers the show.

JL is a show made for interchangable 1.33:1 and 1.78:1 aspect ratios.

Therefore, it looks fine at either ratio.

If it is made interchangable and has been show widescreen, we would surely benefit from the 1.78 anamorphically enhanced version. Would definitely look much better than zooming on a 16x9 set.

Why can't Warner Bros. gives us a choice? They know there is a market for Widescreen, specially after Willy Wonka.

    A double-sided disc isn't hard to do.

Having a 4x3 RPTV, I'm stuck watching what they give me. I can't zoom in to 16:9.

I believe this is a 1.66 Open Frame title, so both the 1.33 and 1.78 transfers lose info.

    (And I'd rather have a 16x9 transfer.)

This thread can also apply to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

I'll be renting both titles, but I won't buy them.

QUOTE: Hey Dennis, before you berate others, did YOU even bother to look into it? If you did, you would find out that the director/artists etc... draw it intended to be seen in widescreen. CN was afraid to show a WS show during prime time, so they said that they have to draw it so it can be shown in 4:3. That is why the WS eps re-air on Sundays.

    ************

And has this practice stopped? I noticed that War World this past Sunday was not widescreen and those have been the ones that I have been taping. Are they airing at a latter time or not at all.

I personally wish both would have been on the DVD in line with the creators wishes....but, I will be buying them for support of this wonderful series. But Warner, you should have known better...

I'm not 100% certain, but Justice League now premieres on Sunday, with repeats on Saturday. Maybe they've moved the widescreen version to the Saturday repeat?
