Hey all, a day or two back was my 18th birthday which of course makes me legal age by law. However I got to thinking about it and to be honest I really don't know what being 18 entitles me to do that I couldn't do before. I think I can smoke which I don't really want to do anyway, but what else am I able to do now that I've turned 18?

Vote in an election
You can enroll for selective service. (required)
In Louisiana, you can drink legally at restaurant establishments.
In Alaska, you can drink.
You can enlist free of your parents in the military
You can now file for independent status so your parents cannot claim you on their taxes.. (I'd probably advise against, your parents may kill you)
You can smoke (I'd probably advise against, it may kill you)
You can chew tobacco (I'd advise against)
You can now only have sex with those your age or older in 34 states without it being a misdemeanor (or, in four states, a felony)

:)

The most imporant thing, when you sign up for your selective service sign up to vote. If you don't vote, you lose your license to complain for an entire year, and who wants that?????

You can also escort underage children to R rated films, do so today! :)

The day I turned 18, I walked into a gas station, bought a pack of smokes, a lottery ticket and a penthouse magazine. I gave the smokes to a smoker friend, lost on the lottery tocket, and think the penthouse is in a box somewhere.

Later that day I went to an R-rated film, although i could do that at 17, it seemed like a symbolic gesture.

I just turned 18 June 23 so I have thought about all these privealges (?) as well. You can also get better jobs that require people to be 18 and you can also test drive cars by yourself! Awesome. I also bought a pack of cigs a couple days ago.

Well the whole porn world lies before you now. And you can go to strip clubs that don't server liquor in some states. Don't forget gambling also. Go to Vegas. There should be more financial things that are open to you now, car loans, credit cards, stuff like that. If your rarea has a curfew that may no longer apply to you. And I think you can probably legally drop out of school now, or at least provide your own excuse for missing class.

Francois must have beat me by seconds... Well done. :emoji_thumbsup:
What about horse tracks and Indian casinos and the like?
I believe there may be a few casinos that allow 18 although the majority have switched to 21 also. For all I know they are all 21 now but I have no idea.
Edit: I don't have a clue about Horse Tracks.

I just turned 18 on the 26th. It wasn't as interesting as I thought. I am applying for my firearms license now and I can buy paintball equipment a little easier but thats about it.

It was closer than you think! Your post showed up right after I posted my reply and got the "We will be taking you to your post" message! :)

As for legal gambling rules in other states, it's important to check with the casino itself before you head there. Same goes for legal drinking ages. They vary widely from state to state and even from province to province.

Stripclubs are the only thing that I've thought of:) not that I'd go in to one of those things;) . I've already registered to vote so I guess that is one perk.

Can he marry now without his parents' consent? Buy property? Lend money? Sign other legal contracts?

Move to Alberta or visit. Here you can drink, gamble, go to strip clubs whatever you want. I think I covered all of those last night.
