Ok...after Vince Maskeeper's crusade to bring this on dvd I saw this for 12.99 and had to pick it up. Sight unseen. I missed all of the great teen movies of the 80's. Will I like this? Any comparisons?

If you enjoyed Almost Famous, I'd say it's safe to say you'll like Say Anything as well.

There are several reasons that Cameron Crowe admires Billy Wilder so much. Most of them are on display in this film. There is an intelligence and empathy at the heart of this film that is rare in a modern romance or comedy and almost nonexistent in "teen" films. Some of the plot elements may seem a bit contrived, but the characters are so well drawn that you will not mind. Last year's "Moulin Rouge" claimed to be about truth, beauty, and love, but "Say Anything" actually delivers all three of these in a much more recognizable form.

    Regards,

There's no guarantee that you'll like ANYTHING someone else likes.
I found people who hated the first Star Wars movie.
But, you'll probably like it. [IMG]

    Jeff,

Since you bought it indirectly inspired by me-- if you don't like it, I'll happily buy it from you.

I wonder if Fox will complain about sales of this title-- I hunted all day and couldn't find a single copy! I wonder if there are others like me who would buy it if they could only find it. Arrrrrrgh!

I want it, I fought for it, now I can't find it. I had actually planned to pick up a half dozen copies as gifts for firends.

I couldn't find the Say Anything DvD either. Was looking forward to picking this one up...the stores I checked, including Best Buy, had the other new releases for the week but no Say Anything DVDs in sight. Strange.

My local Best Buy had several copies in the "drama" section, but I was there at 11:15 AM, so I'm not sure if they sold out later.

I remember this being a really good flick, I was'nt going to buy it, but $12.99 at Costco was too tempting.

    Same here regarding Best Buy.
It's wasn't in the "New Releases" section, but there were a decent amount in the Drama section, with a big yellow $12.99 sale tag!
    SOLD!!

My Best Buy had it in the Drama section, but was already sold out by the time I got there...

    Wednesday, around noon.

My BB had boatloads of it...yep, in the Drama section. No chance of selling out too quickly, although there WAS large dent in the setup (which I contributed to).
While everyone else here is always talking about how their BB sells out of stuff, I always think "huh...mine doesn't...are sales here slower or do they get more copies? Maybe a bit of both".
Well, tonight they were almost sold out of "The One"...they had emptied one of those 4x4 pocket cardboard dumps of it, and the shelves were almost bare, too! Wow! Hot seller; I guess hotter than SA. [IMG]

Only a heartless person would not enjoy "Say Anything". It's one of the great films of the 1980's, and does everything just right.
Plus it's a great date flick (almost guarenteed to make your honey melt into your arms). [IMG]

    SCORE!

I found a bunch of copies at another Best Buy a visited today. I bought 4 copies, and screened the film for a pal who had never seen it before. He said he planned to pick up a copy this weekend.

The collective continues-- you too will be assimilated.

God, what a great movie. Just works in so many ways. Well acted, great characters, nice pace, many quotable lines and a great soundtrack.

If only they would have found room to include somewhere in the movie the one song actually written for the movie, The Smithereens' A Girl Like You--- you'd think they would have at least included it over the credits...

Anyone from Calgary find it? The FutureShop on MacLeod Trail doesn't have it. [IMG]
