Got it yesterday, and before I ever plugged it in, I opened to check whether I could fix a sligth bulging in the face plate.
I immediately noticed it had a funny smell, like burned plastic, much like when an integrated circuit burns.
I looked at everything indside and nothing seemed damaged.
I plugged it in and have been playing today DVD's and CD's for most of the day withouht the slightest flinching.
If you have one of these, does it have that funny smell also?
One more question. I noticed in the manual, that it has a feature called audio only. The description reads:
" You can enjoy higher quality audio by stopping the video signal".
It is applicable to all disc formats that the player can play.
What the hell is this supposed to mean?
Does it mean that when I am watching a DVD I am not getting the full audio potential from it unless I turn the picture off?
I suppose this is probably applicable when sending the audio out in analog form through the player's own decoder and not when sending a digital bitstream to the A/V receiver.
    Any ideas?
    Regards

Didn't notice any smell to my player. The audio only refers to the use of CD's or DVD-A. I've tried the audio only feature and can't say it makes that much of a difference in sound quality to my untrained ear.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Thanks Sean. I figured the "audio only" deal was some marketting crap.
The smell, however, does concern me a bit.
Anyone else noticed any funny smell on their RP82?

I think that almost any electonic gadget smells pretty bad inside nowadays. My RP82 only had a slight plasticky smell when I took it out of the box and non at all by the time I got it set up next to the TV.

Our new 36" television was a different matter. It stunk up half the house for a week when it first arrived. It's pretty much dissipated by now, fortunately.

    Thanks Brentt.

It seems to be working fine.
I will just keep an eye on it during the warranty period.
I think it smells less now, anyway.
