Well, I just got my new "Dad-made" DVD cabinet. I had asked him to build me one in his spare time. Well, now 4 months later, I have one, and guess what? It's 90% full already! Isn't that the friggin' way? So now, I have this great cabinet which will be full by the end of the year... back to square one again... Geez. Thanks, Dad!

For those who are curious, Dad says:
"It was made out of white oak from Pennsylvania, with MDF board for shelves. It also has oak panneling for the sides and front. It also has adjustable legs for leveling. It took around 60 hours and cost around $80 for materials and designed from scratch. Next time, I would probably not use the panneling. It really slowed me down."

Nice! Is that a lock I see on the front panel? That's great if it is....If I ever get myself some kind of shelving system, I will certainly have a lock on it....with me having the only key.[IMG]

That looks nearly identical to the cabinet my brother just got at Best Buy, albeit with better wood. How many does it hold?

    Nice work, Dad! [IMG]

I have two similar fold-out cabinets on order, each holds 300 DVDs. Storage is fast becoming a major pain for DVDs in my house! [IMG]

well, single disc, it should hold around 500... the problem is, as you can see, not everything is single disc... I imagine I will fill to capacity around 400.

Adam: Kudos to your dad, that looks awesome. In my family, I'm the one the put everything together, my dad just shows it off to his friends. Even after I moved out lo these many years.

I see you have this line in your sig:

Great looking cabinent I'd add a lock in my case to not have anyone borrow with out asking...

But I agree with Jessie, Netflix is a good way to go, I use to buy so many DVD's each week, now i look back at some titles i bought, and wonder why I bought them. That helps with the storage situation alot.
I currently bought the blockbuster freedom pass for 24.99, you get two DVD's in your possesion at any time for a whole month, return and rent news ones as many times as you can.

So renting elimanated alot of movies for me to buy.. which in return made me save alot of space...[IMG]

I don't need a lock. THere's no one in my house or that comes by that wants to borrow movies. I'm not worried.

As someone who has lost DVDs during a break-in, let me say that a lock is a good thing. I've just run out of room in my existing rack, and I guarantee you my next one will have a lock.
