I decided last weekend that I'd buy a TIVO. They're not very well known over here in the UK, but a lot of people have been praising them.

I've had it a week and it's one of the best additions to my home theater setup. I was always forgetting to set the VCR and now I don't have to worry.

I like to keep the recordings for a while so I think that the 40Gb drive is going to get full pretty quick. I know that you can upgrade the drive, but I want to wait until it's out of the warranty period before I mess with it too much.

Do many people archive their recordings to VCR, or just erase them. Given the ease of TIVO and the instant playback I'm not sure I could ever go back to VCR.

VHS is dead, long live TIVO!

At first I backed them up to tape, at least the ones I wanted to keep. However I found that the tapes just get dusty.[IMG] So the only time I save to vcr is when someone wants to see a specific show.
By the way, welecome to the TiVolution !!!

By far - my TiVo's (2) were the best purchase I made in 2001.

    Simply amazing technology!

I can't believe that the marketing of TIVO is so poor in the UK. The shop where I bought mine from (a pretty big chain) had it hidden away on a top shelf. The guy in the shop didn't have a clue about it - thought I was a bit strange for buying one [IMG]

    Darren,

Just curious...does the program guide function in the UK, or does the Tivo just work like a VCR, with manual recording?

Thanks for the links. I'd joined TIVO Community Forums to ask some questions before buying one.

Tony G - Yes the program guide is fully functional in the UK. Every night (about 1am) it dials a freephone number to download its info and any software updates.
