I just picked up a SACD player and already had the Dark Side of the Moon CD and it sounds great. Picked up Dylan's Blonde on Blonde and was very dissapointed. So what titles do you suggest for great sound ????

    Trevor,

    Congratulations on your new machine!

I don't know what type of music you like but here are some early recommendations....

    Pop/Rock:

    Beck - Sea Changes
    Ryan Adams - Gold
    The Who - Tommy
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Peter Gabriel - Anything from Catalog

    Bluegrass:

Alison Krauss & Union Station: Live (stellar!)

    Jazz:

    Mingus Ah Um
Four Generations of Miles (Chesky Records)
Anything on Fantasy label pretty much

    Classical:

Anything in Mahler cycle by Michael Tilson Thomas.
Anything on the Channel Classics label (not a single bad recording for me so far)
Rainbow Body on Telarc - Atlanta Symphony

I will probably think of some more soon. If you can let us know what bands you listen to now that would help. [IMG]

    beck-sea change
    steely dan-gaucho
    miles davis-kind of blue
    pink floyd-dsotm
rolling stones-sympathy remix single, original version in 5.1 is worth the 7 bucks.

Trevor, I think that you should consider the age of that Bob album, what, '67 or '68...? It sounded grungy on vinyl back then and it sounds grungy on today's formats. IMO, it sounds like it's supposed to.

Wanna hear some old rock done up right? Try The Zombies Best Of or Donovan's STORYTELLER on Audio Fidelity hybrid or the Stones or T Rex. For new rock I recommend the Suitcase Pimps, Ryan Adams, or Feeder. If you can tolerate single-layer get Joe Satarini's STRANGE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC.

forgot about the joe satriani, if you dig his guitar thing, it's a nice 5.1 mix as well.

Allegedly there is a uk version of Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow in 5.1 that is good as well. its stereo in the states.

Rachael, btw, I got my Depeche 101 sacd the other day, so far no signs of defects in the 5.1 layer. my first impression was that the vocals sounded nice and smooth, esp for a live disc, but would like more than crowd noise in rears, but i kind of expected that. Have to give it a couple more spins...

    Thanks guy's..
My taste im music is pretty wide. I love Pink Floyd, Beatles, Elton John, Steely Dan, Eagles and most good old rock. Also like David Gray, REM etc. from todays music. Like soul, good Reggae, jazz if it's not too off key. Interested in both multi track and excellent sounding 2 chl.

You have some great Steely Dan's (six I think) coming out in June on Super Audio and Gaucho is out and sounds great.

No Beatles in hirez yet, but we should see some more Pink Floyd on Super Audio if their recording engineer James Guthrie is any indication. [IMG]

    Fair and balanced comment: [IMG]

On DVDA, you have several Steely Dan winners: Everything Must Go, Two Against Nature, Kamakiriad (Fagen), and The Nightfly (Fagen). Of course I think the Fagen discs are really Steely Dan in disguise since Becker helps produce. [IMG] REM is on DVDA as is the Eagles.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks Lee,
First disc I saw when I checked out your sites was one of my all time favorites, Roxy Music - Avalon. Can't wait to hear that in multi-chnl.

if you like that roxy, there's some bowie ones, too.

highly recommend "A Kind of Blue" and "A Love Supreme", to pick a miles and a coltrane, of which there are several to choose from.

good ol' rock? the ccr ones sound good.

Allegedly???? It's been out in the US in 4.0 (NOT 5.1---it's the original quad mix) for a couple of years now. It's great.
