Just Disable SEARCH function! (1 Viewer)

Esteemed colleagues:
I have attempted to use the search function multiple times in the past few weeks, and every time it has been unavailable due to high server load. I am well aware of the server capacity issue, and fully intend to donate to the cause to purchase a better server.
In the meantime, however, the current situation seems like such a tease. Why not just disable the search function altogether? It appears to me that this might help ease the load on the server for the other real-time operations. It certainly wouldn't change our ability to search old threads...we can't do that anyway.
Just thought I would share my frustrations and offer some admittedly non-tehcnical advice.
Keep up the good work guys. I love this place!

It's a pain in the arse Christian, but realistically we can't disable it totally. Sometimes the mods have to do searches for administrative reasons (and there is no option to limit the searches just to mods). I think part of the problem you have stems from the fact that your over on the west coast of the US, so by the time your day begins everybody else is halfway through their's. For me the forum whizzes throughough most of my daytime, but early evening I hit the drag period.

I have used the search functionality a couple of times and always had good luck with it. I would for sure really miss it, if it was to be removed.

You might have a problem with it Christian being on the left coast. Us east coasters tend to be on the forum a bit earlier than those of us 3 hours behind us. Like I have no problems using the search engine before noon EST but you guys might be cause when you guys are typically on, it's prime time over here and the central and mountain folks are already catching up..... I agree, once afternoon hits, it's tough to use but I just remember to do all my searches that I need in the morning.... Maybe for a fee, us east coasters can search things and store them for you west coasters... :)
Keep the search engine, some of us can and actually are able to use it.
