Hello all,
As the topic states, I have just bought my PS2.(well, I bought it yesterday) I bought the one that comes with GT3 plus I picked up Onimusha with it.
Can anyone tell me what games I should get before Silent Hill 2 and ICO come out? (These two games are both still coming out next month right?) I wanted to get XG3, but I didn't see it at the store I went to. Has it actually even come out yet? I was also thinking of picking up Dark Cloud, what are peoples opinion on this game?
To let everyone know, I'm a pure RPG freak(good rgp's only though :) ), but I will play and enjoy almost every other genre of game.
You know, my plan was to pick up a PS2 on the same day as Gamecube came out (thinking there may be a price drop), but once the GCN game out in Japan I couldn't take it anymore. I needed something to play!
Well, hopefully you'll be able to find my questions in this jumble of a thread :)

I'm a big RPG fan myself, and have yet to see a "must-have" title on the PS2. Dark Cloud got good reviews, however I've yet to play it myself. I've really been playing PSX RPG's on the PS2 lately. Final Fantasy Chronicles, actually.
That being said, there are some really sweet games coming up. Silent Hill 2 is actually coming out Sept. 27 or 28, that's less than 2 weeks. A few weeks after that, Devil May Cry comes out. Then, Metal Gear in November (provided Konami doesn't postpone the release...)
Games I would suggest are:
1. NBA Street
2. Tekken Tag
3. Twisted Metal Black
4. Madden 2002
5. Resident Evil Code Veronica (comes with a Devil May Cry demo)
That should get you started.

As much as I love SSX (best PS2 game so far, IMO), you might find it more price-conscious to wait for SSX:Tricky. At the very least, give it a rent though.

Thanks for the advice! Ico comes out this month also I think...
Silent Hill 2 and Devil May Cry are must buys for me (part of the reason I bought the system).
One game that I just remembered about that comes out this month is Dragon Warrior VII for the PSX. Those were probably my most favourite games on the NES, and it's too bad that 5 and 6 never ended up coming out here on the SNES. Oh well, at lease we are getting VII!
Yea, I'll rent SSX, and if I like it I'll just buy Tricky(probably on Gamecube though *if* that version has better graphics).
Thanks again.

Go buy the $8 demo disc. It has some good demos on it.
Hmm...Tekken Tag is pretty good if you like Tekken. I do, so I reccommend it. SSX is really good, but Tricky is supposed to be better. I enjoyed Starfighter, but you may want to rent it first. I would reccommend becoming friends with someone who own Zone of the Enders so that you don't buy it (cuz its not really worth it, but its pretty good for the few hours it takes to beat) and you should definitely get the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, if you can (cuz its the best game, yes, GAME, on the PS2). Stay away from Orphen cuz it sucks (I have it, it sucks).
Other than that, get ICO, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry, Blood Omen 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, and the other big games coming out.

Andy, you can pretty much count on Tricky having better graphics on Gamecube & XBOX. In addition to outputting a progressive signal, both will be able to use additional effects, such as volumetric smoke (which looks super cool :) ).

If you like sports then NCAA 2002 and Madden 2002 are must have games. Also don't forget Soul Reaver 2 which will be released on the same day as Silent Hill 2. Right now I'm trying to decide which to get first if I can't get both at once.

I just played the Ico demo! Damn that was amazing... I can't wait to play through the rest of the game!

Best Buy is now selling the original SSX game for a mere $29.99, which really isn't too bad:

Tricky will probably be a better game, but $30 is a great deal for the original. . .

I recently bought one as well; it is to be a Christmas present for my kids - two boys ages 12 and 10. I have not let them get violent games on PS one - favorites are Crash Bandicoot series (while violence, only cartoon violence, not hurting other people or blowing up structures violence) and myriad of racing games.
I have Grand Tourismo with the PS2. Any other suggestions for (relatively) non-violent games for kids?

Maybe try out Klonoa2. The reviews have been pretty good.
Check out IGN for a review and/or preview if they haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet.

Thanks, Andrew
I'll look into it. Sounds like a potential Christmas present from Grandma and Grandpa. :)
