Just bought a new pc. What are the must have software for security and privacy?

    First off, congrats on your new purchase. As for software suggestions (** what I use):

    Anonymous surfing:
    WebTunnel**

    Anti-spam:
    SpamPal** (for POP3/IMAP4 mailboxes)
    SpamAssassin (for UNIX)

    Anti-spyware:
    Microsoft Windows AnitSpyware (Beta)**
    Spybot - Search & Destroy**

    Firewall (anti-hacker):
    Kerio Personal Firewall**
    ZoneAlarm

    Popup Blocker:
    Google Toolbar**
    Internet Explorer 6 w/ SP2**
    Mozilla Firefox 1.04**

    Virus scanning:
    avast 4 Professional Edition
    AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
    McAfee VirusScan 9.0**
    Norton AntiVirus 2005

    Here's what I recommend installing to help keep your PC secure:

    -Norton AntiVirus (Or AVG AntiVirus if you want a great and free antivirus program)
    -Ad-Aware
    -Spybot: Search and Destroy
    -Zone Alarm
    -Opera (By far the best browser on the market. Yes, even better than Firefox.)
    -PeerGuardian
    -CCleaner (Crap Cleaner)
    -Cacheman

    However the most important thing you need to do for maximum protection and security is make sure your operating system is COMPLETELY up to date! I cannot stress that enough.
