It could go to 11. It was just under 6 and then *KABOOM!!*

Ouch. I had to look up the price of it. That's painful. It's difficult to tell, but it does sound like a fried voice coil. Repair should be an option.

FWIW, there are less expensive options that can outperform it. They will probably be larger, though.
